You would really have to question how competitive this is going to be? Manchester City will believe they have fallen on their feet in the semi-final draw having avoided Spurs and Chelsea. Instead, they take on League One side Burton and will be expected to have an easy time of things. Manchester City are the outright favourites for the EFL Cup. On the weekend they put seven goals past Championship side Rotherham at the Etihad. Will the goals flow for them in this clash with Burton too? The Brewers have just hit a four-match undefeated streak of form in their division, but they will know the size of the task ahead of them here. But when you look at their run in the EFL Cup, they have knocked plenty of teams sitting above them in the league standings after having opened with a win over Shrewsbury. Burton saw off Championship side Aston Villa before beating Premier League outfit Burnley then at home in the following round.
Their EFL Cup upsets didn’t stop there. They went up against more Championship opposition in the next two rounds. Firstly they got the better of Nottingham Forest and then in the quarterfinals faced a tough game at the Riverside against Middlesbrough. But the Brewers did what they have done and got the job done with a narrow win. All of their wins in the competition have been by one goal margin.
