Manchester City News and Form

The Citizens moved back to the top of the Premier League table for the first time since December. They did so by earning a 2-0 win at Goodison Park against Everton on Wednesday night. That is back to back wins they have taken now in the last week, following a victory over Arsenal last weekend.

The only negative one can assume, is the fact that they had the extra midweek work, whereas Chelsea were resting. But still, the positive few days that City have produced, leaves them with a win in all but one of their last seven top-flight fixtures. At home this season they hold a mightily impressive W12 L1 record.

The Citizens have averaged 3.3 goals per home league game this season and all but one of their fixtures at the Etihad have gone over 2.5 goals. 62% have made it over 3.5 goals. The Citizens have produced at least two goals in each and every home game played this season in the EPL.

They have been struggling for those clean sheets though with only one in their last eight on home soil in the league. Still, they have averaged under a goal per game on home turf this season. Both teams have scored in 69% of their home league games now. 64% of their home goals conceded have been in the first half of fixtures. Man City’s home half time record is W10 D2 L1.

Key-Facts – Manchester City v Chelsea

  • Man City have six wins in their last seven league games
  • The Citizens have scored at least two goals in all home EPL games this term
  • Chelsea have lost their last two away games

Chelsea News and Form

Chelsea’s enjoyed a big 5-0 home win over Huddersfield last weekend, with striker Gonzalo Higuain getting a brace for himself at his new club. The Blues needed that after having fallen to back to back league defeats prior to that. Those two defeats were both out on the road, which could be troubling for them here, at Arsenal and Bournemouth.

Chelsea certainly aren’t carrying away form with them into this one. Chelsea’s away record is W7 D1 L4 this season with all four losses coming against top-half of the table teams. Chelsea are W3 L4 in their last seven on the road. The Blues have averaged 1.6 goals per away game this season and 75% of their away fixtures have ended up over 2.5 goals.

They have done alright at the back, despite not having won more away games. The Londoners have earned a clean sheet in 42% of their road games. Of this season’s goals which they have conceded away from home, 64% have come against them in the second half of fixtures.

Of these six away wins that they have picked up, four of them have been by a one-goal margin. Chelsea have opened the scoring in a healthy two-thirds of their road games. Only Man City and Liverpool have better defensive records than Chelsea.
