Manchester United News and Form

All the Manchester United have left to play for is a top-five finish. The chance of reaching the top four in the Champions League next season was slammed in their face last weekend in a disappointing 1-1 draw against Huddersfield. In total Manchester United only have two points from their last four league games. They need to overturn a one-point deficit to Arsenal (two points really considering they are far worse off in goal difference to the Gunners) to reach the top five on the final day of the season.

Manchester United are W10 D6 L2 at home this season in the Premier League, and really it is only been against the stronger sides in which they have failed. They have gone D4 L2 in their home games against the other top seven sides, which leaves all of their home wins this season coming against teams who are currently sitting eighth or lower in the table.

United have averaged 1.8 goals per home game, which is not a bad return, but they have been very poor at the back by their usual high standards. There has been a clean sheet for the Red Devils in just 11% of their home fixtures in the Premier League this term. That has played a part in 72% of games at Old Trafford making it over 2.5 goals.

Seven of Manchester United’s 10 home wins this season have been by a one-goal margin only. There has been no clean sheet earned by the Red Devils in any of their last 10 league games, home and away. They are without one in five at Old Trafford. Manchester United have been leading at half time in nine of their home games, which is good, but they have conceded 74% of their goals at Old Trafford in the second period of games.

Cardiff News and Form

It is a three-match losing streak that Cardiff are currently on in the top flight. Their survival hopes were quashed last weekend, so they will be heading back down to the Championship for next season. Cardiff have only taken three away wins all season (D2 L13) and in their campaign out on the road, they have managed only 11 goals.

That returns an average of around 0.6 goals per away game by the Bluebirds. Less than half of their road games have made it over 2.5 goals. Each of Cardiff’s last five away games have actually ended under the goal line.

Cardiff have earned a clean sheet in 22% of away games played. The current away form of Cardiff has seen them lose four of their last five played, the one exception in that sequence was when they beat Brighton to give themselves a glimmer of hope of staying up.

Of the 13 away losses that Cardiff have taken this season, eight of them have been by a one-goal margin. Cardiff haven’t been involved in an away draw in any of their last nine on the road. They have been losing at the halftime break in exactly half of their road games for the term. Cardiff have scored nine of their 11 away goals after the halftime break in fixtures.

Manchester United v Cardiff Predictions

Man Utd to win: There is a lot to criticize Man Utd for at the moment, however, they are at home on the final day of the season against a team which has just been relegated. This has to be a chance for them to deliver a positive. Home win to nil.
