Tuesday’s afternoon Masters session from the Alexandra Palace features Mark Williams taking on Neil Robertson. This has the look of being a pretty competitive and tight match as well. So a quick glance at the match outright odds for this first round showdown at the Masters 2019 shows that it is expected to be tight. This is action from the bottom half of the draw and the winner of the match will face the winner of the Barry Hawkins v Shaun Murphy match being played later in the day.

This will be the first meeting between the two players since the 2017 European masters when Williams came out on top 4-2 in the round of sixteen match. However, when it boils down to the head to head, it is Robertson who has dominated scraps between the two. The Australian leads Williams 14-2 with three drawn matches (from the likes of Premier League).

Robertson also has a title to his name during the 2018/19 season, having collected the win at the Riga Masters. That is one of two finals that he has been too this season. But Mark Williams has also landed a success, claiming the World Open title in what has been his only appearance in a final this season.

The two of them have met twice before in the Masters. The first was in 2007 when Robertson stormed his way to a 6-0 win in the first round. They met for the second time at the invitational tournament back in 2012 when it was Robertson who came out on top once again. This time the match was a closer affair as it was a 6-4 success for the Australian.

Prediction

Robertson has some serious head to head form between the two from previous meetings, including that 100% record over Williams at the Masters. The underdog Robertson at even money, therefore, doesn’t look a bad option at all in the match outright* (betting odds taken from Bet365 on January 14th, 2019 at 5:50 pm)
