Marseille News and Form

Marseille will be hoping to pick up the pace a bit as they return to league action after the winter break. They have only gone D2 L1 in their last three league games. However, they have been pretty solid at home this term having picked up a W5 D2 L1 record on home soil. They played out a 0- 0 draw with Reims in their last home fixture. As a positive for them going into this one as well, is that they have taken a win in all four games played at home this season against teams currently 14th or lower. Marseille won all of those four games to nil, scoring at least two goals in each.

Marseille have averaged over two goals at home this season per game, so they have been scoring well. They have been tight at the back too with only six home goals conceded. They have earned a clean sheet in 62% of their league home fixtures. Marseille have won four of their eight home games to nil this season. Each of their last four league home games have ended under 2.5 goals and of the goals they have scored at home, 65% of their home goals in the first half of matches. Only Lyon and PSG have scored more league goals than Marseille this season.

Marseille v Monaco Head to Head

Monaco News and Form

Monaco are in trouble second from bottom in Ligue 1 five points from safety. They took a big risk in bringing in the untested Thierry Henry as manager and since he took charge, they have come up with only the two wins. That’s one more than they had managed before he got there though. Going into the winter break Monaco had suffered back to back league defeats so need to buck up quickly. As a positive though, they have produced more away points than they have done at home this season. Away from home, they have posted a W3 D1 L4 record for the season. They have lost all four of their away games this season against top half of the table teams.

Monaco have tallied up nine goals on their travels but have only the two clean sheets in their favour. But those two clean sheets which they have earned away from home have both been earned in their last three on the road. They have won two of their last three away games in the French top flight (L1). Just to put into context how far they have fallen this season, they were 25 points better off than they were at this stage of last season’s campaign. Monaco have produced 89% of their away goals in the second half of matches. They are the fourth-lowest scorers in the French top flight currently and have the third-worst defensive record in Ligue 1 as well. Monaco have failed to score in 39% of all their league matches this season

Marseille v Monaco Predictions

Marseille to win: We can see Marseille coming out strongly on home soil in their return from the winter break. Monaco have a lot of ground to make up and they have shown already this season they can’t compete against the top sides away from home. Marseille to win to nil.
