Masters Golf betting is in focus here as we look at some of the early favourites for Augusta, along with the latest Masters golf betting odds.

In this Masters Golf Betting 2022 preview, our betting experts will take a look through some of the history of the famous tournament and trends as well.

The Masters is the first Major of the year and there has been a lot of extra interest with the potential return of Tiger Woods lining up at the tournament.

Masters Golf 2022 Tournament Details

The 2022 Masters is set for April 7th through 10th, 2022 and it will be at its usual home. That is the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.

The course this year will be playing at 7,510 yards at Par 72 with holes 11 and 15 having been extended a little from last year.

How do players qualify for the Masters 2022?

A player has to be invited to take part in golf’s Masters. That having been said, those who get invited have to meet certain requirements.

An example is that all past Masters winners get an invite, as do the recent winners (previous five years) of any of the other Majors.

The list of qualification criteria goes on, but the Masters has the smallest field out of golf’s four Majors.

Who is the Masters 2022 golf betting favourite?

Spain’s John Rahm is the current 9/1 favourite in Masters Golf Betting Odds 2022* (odds recorded at 21:55 GMT on April 4th, 2022 at Boylesports).

The Spaniard met a whole host of qualification criteria to get his place at this year’s event.

The biggest of those was winning the US Open last year, his breakthrough Major title.

Jon Rahm has finihsed in the Top 8 in each of his last six Majors in which he didn’t miss the cut, and along with the 2022 US Open win, there were four other Top 5 finishes.

So naturally, Rahm will warrant some big respect at this year’s opening Major. He finished with a T5 at last year’s Masters.

Is Tiger Woods playing at the 2022 Masters?

Five-time Masters winner Tiger Woods has received an invite to the Masters 2022.

Seeing the great one take his place at the tournament has fuelled plenty of excitement about this year’s renewal of the Masters.

At the time of writing, Woods hadn’t confirmed that he will be playing. But he put in a practice round on Sunday regardless.

Woods suffered a badly damaged leg in a car accident last year, and there was even talk of amputation.

But it was surgically repaired and in December he played the PNC Championship with his son Charlie.

With the aid of a cart and not having to play every shot, it was easy going for Tiger Woods at the tournament. Fitness and lack of playing time and form are going to be obvious factors.

Tiger Woods is currently at 60/1 in Masters golf betting 2022* (odds recorded at 21:55 GMT on April 4th, 2022 at Boylesports).

2021 Masters Golf Recap

After the 2020 edition was held in November, the 2021 edition moved back to its regular slot in early April.

The 2021 Masters was won by Hideki Matsuyama who finished one shot ahead of Will Zalatoris in an exciting climax.

With the victory, Matsuyama became the first male Japanese player to land a golf Major.

A repeat for Hideki Matsuyama is currently at a quote of 40/1 in Masters odds 2022* (odds recorded at 21:55 GMT on April 4th, 2022 at Boylesports).

2021 Masters Result

  • 1st Hideki Matsuyama -10
  • 2nd WIll Zalatoris -9
  • T3 Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth -7

England’s Justin Rose had been the early pacesetter at the tournament after a stunning 7-under in the first round to lead.

He stayed top of the leaderboard after round two but hadn’t gained any ground, staying at the same score before eventually finishing the tournament in 7th.

Our betting prediction:
Rory McIlroy
16/1

Who are some leading contenders in Masters 2022 odds?

In the next section of this Masters 2022 golf betting preview, we take a look at a few of the other players who are currently near the head of the market.

Justin Thomas won the Players Championship last year and he has also touched Major success before in his career. Thomas won the 2017 PGA Championship. His best finish at the Masters was a Top 5 in 2020.

Cameron Smith has a strong track record at the Masters, having carded three Top 10 finishes in his last four appearances. The best of those was a T2 in 2020 and Augusta seems to fit the Australian’s game pretty well. Smith is seeking his first Major but arrives having landed this year’s Players Championship.

Current world number one Scottie Scheffler hasn’t cracked the Masters Top 10 yet, but the 2022 edition will see him in just his third appearance. He has made it inside the Top 20 on both previous efforts. It’s his overall form in the Majors last year that piques interest. He carded a Top 3 finish in each of the other three 2021 Major tournaments.

Other notable contenders for 2022 Masters Golf Betting

2020 Masters Champion Dustin Johnson is expected to get in the mix with such a brilliant track record in the Majors behind him. Johnson missed the cut in last year’s event after a run of five straight top-ten finishes at the Masters, including the win. A Top 10 at the Players recently sees him carrying form.

Rory McIlroy is only missing the Masters to complete a full house of Major titles earned throughout his career. While he is well-remembered for his massive final-round collapse in 2011 when he had the title well in his sights, McIlroy has been outside of the Top 10 in just one of the last eight appearances at Augusta.

Collin Morikawa, a two-time Major champion from eight previous tournaments (2020 PGA Championship, 2021 The Open Championship) will have a lot of eyes on him. While he hasn’t been inside the Top 15 in either of his two previous Masters efforts, he was a Top 10 finisher in three of last year’s Majors including his win at The Open.

Other notable names that look as if they pose a threat and are trading well in the Masters Odds 2022 there are the likes of Brooks Koepka, Patrick Cantlay, Viktor Hovland and Jordan Spieth.

Spieth, 2015 had a big return to form at last year’s Masters with a T3. Besides his title-winning year, he has four other top-five finishes at the Masters as is 16/1 in 2022 Masters odds* (odds recorded at 21:55 GMT on April 4th, 2022 at Boylesports).

Stats for Masters Betting Tips 2022

Always a key part of looking at golf betting is diving through some statistics to try and help narrow the field. When it comes to golf there are always plenty of those stats knocking around.

Key Masters Tips Statistics to consider

  • Age of winner
  • Currnet World Ranking
  • Prevouis Masters Appearnaces
  • Previous Masters Form
  • Current Season Form
  • Form in the recent Majors

Age: Half of the last ten winners of the Masters have been in their 30s, with Tiger Woods’ 2019 success the only winner at 40+ in that period.

World Ranking: This is quite a key one because the trend has been towards players who are in the top twenty in the world rankings. All but two of the last ten winners have been inside the Top 20 when landing their Masters title.

Augusta Appearances: This is a big one really. Experience counts for a lot and while there are some big contenders around, like Scottie Scheffler and Collin Morikawa, they are only going to become even bigger threats the more experiences at Augusta they have. 8 of the last 10 Masters winners had put in at least three previous tournament entries. There hasn’t been a first-time winner at the Masters since Fuzzy Zoeller’s epic 1979 success at Augusta.

Previous strong finish at Augusta: Simply turning up at Augusta fully counts in terms of experience. Having previously finished well up the leaderboard at a previous Masters is a trend to look for. All but three of the last 10 winners had previously landed themselves a Top 10 finish at the Masters.

Current season form: It’s hard to turn up and tame Augusta with little current seasonal form going it would seem. Look for a player who had reached at least the top three in one of their two previous tournaments played before the Masters.

Form in the Majors: Another of the key trends for Masters betting is form from recent Majors before landing the Masters. All but one of the last ten Masters Champions had recorded at least at T6 at a major tournament in the previous two years.

First Round Leader Masters Odds 2022

Masters History

The Masters was introduced to the season in 1934 and it has its unique qualities in that it has the smallest field of all the majors and it is the only one that is played at the same course each year.

Any Masters winner gets a lifetime invitation back to the tournament. The famous Green Jacket is a coveted prize at the Masters, a feature which was introduced in 1949 and is one of the most iconic items in golf.

The all-time leading Masters champion is Jack Nicklaus who won the event six times, including his 1986 title at 46 year old, also making him the oldest ever winner of the Masters.

At the other end of the age scale, Tiger Woods is the youngest ever winner of the major.
