Mexico News and Form – Mexicans too strong in Denver?

Mexico began their Gold Cup campaign with a bang, sealing a massive win over Cuba in Pasadena last weekend. El Tri ran riot in the Rose Bowl, netting seven without reply. Along the way, Gerardo Martino’s men had 30 shots on goal and created a hatful of chances.

Uriel Antuna, who is on loan at LA Galaxy from Manchester City, was the hero for the Mexicans, as the 21-year-old helped himself to a smart hat-trick. Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Raul Jimenez scored twice while Diego Antonio Reyes and Alexis Vega were also on the scoresheet.

Mexico are fancied to go far in the States. In fact, Martino’s side are the current favourites to lift the trophy, with bet365 pricing them at evens. The Mexicans, who last won this competition back in 2015, could take some stopping this year.

After thumping Cuba in their opening game, Mexico will be hoping to make it six points out of six on Thursday. This will be a far tougher matchup, but the seven-time Gold Cup winners will fancy their chances in Denver.

Mexico v Canada Head to Head

Mexico have won the last three meetings without conceding a single goal

It’s been 19 years since Canada’s last victory in this fixture

The Mexicans are unbeaten in seven against Canada, winning five of those in the process

The Canadians have scored just three goals in the last seven meetings between the two

Key-Facts – Mexico v Canada

  • Both nations started the Gold Cup with emphatic wins
  • Mexico’s Uriel Antuna is currently the tournament’s top score with three goals to his name
  • The pair are unbeaten in 2019

Canada News and Form – Tough task for the Canucks?

John Herdman’s Canada eased to a win over Martinique in Pasadena in their opening match of the tournament. Gent’s Jonathan Davies scored a brace, with Cardiff City’s Junior Hoilett and Rangers’ Scott Arfield also getting goals in the 4-0 rout.

The Canadians are arguably the most unpredictable side in this tournament. On their day, the Canucks are capable of giving anyone a good game, but they head into this fixture as the big 11/1 underdogs. Meanwhile, they are priced at 40/1 (bet365) to win the Gold Cup outright.

Canada are a team in excellent form at the minute. Since losing 1-0 to El Salvador in a friendly back in October 2017, the Reds have won six in a row, scoring 23 and conceding just one. Meanwhile, they have lost only twice since November 2016.

This will be a tough matchup for Canada, but 11/1 is a very tempting price. Can the Canadians cause an upset in Colorado?

Mexico v Canada Tips & Odds

Mexico to win and both teams to score at 9/4
Uriel Antuna to score anytime at 7/2

Mexico v Canada Predictions

Mexico win: Since losing three on the bounce, the Mexicans have hit back with five successive victories. Canada will not be an easy nut to crack for Mexico, but the tournament favourites should edge this Group A fixture. With that in mind, put your money on Mexico to win and both teams to score at 9/4. I’m also backing in-form Uriel Antuna to net anytime at the top odds of 7/2.
