Reigning PDC Darts World Champion Michael van Gerwen is on the march. He has stormed through to the quarter finals in impressive fashion. He will be squaring up against the surprise package of the unseeded Darius Labanauskas there. Naturally MVG will be a fair banker for most punters.

Mighty Mike impressive so far

Michael van Gerwen, who started to hit his stride towards the end of the regular PDC season, has barely broken a sweat in getting through his first three fixtures at Ally Pally in the World Championships. The Dutchman has dropped just one set so far, which happened in his opening fixture against compatriot Jelle Klaasen. Mighty Mike has sent Ricky Evans and Stephen Bunting packing in the third and fourth rounds respectively, without dropping a set. MVG was on fire against Burning in the last round, piling on the pressure with a 104 three-dart average. The only thing that looks as if it could trip him up in this next match is complacency.

This will be the first meeting between the two players

Lucky D to cause a shock?

Lithuania’s Darius Labanauskas is a surprise package in the final eight of the PDC Darts World Championship 2020. This is his first attempt at the event, but he was a former quarter finalist back in the 2017 BDO World Championships. Still, with his current ranking in the world at 99, this would be a seismic upset if he came up with the win. He opened with a straight-sets win over England’s Matthew Edger, before toppling 9th seed Ian White in the second round. That was some major upset he pulled out of his hat there. Then he sunk 24th seed Max Hopp in the third round before sending Steve Beaton home. So Darius Labanauskas is riding a wave of confidence at the moment. Can he claim the biggest scalp of all?

Michael van Gerwen v Darius Labanauskas Prediction and tip

We are going to suggest that this could be as light work for MVG as a walkover. Might Mike is right in the zone and even though Labanauskas has had his fantastic moments in this event, it could all come crashing down badly here. MVG piled so much pressure on Stephen Bunting in the last round, Bunting only ended with a three-dart average of around 85. Michael van Gerwen 5-0 Correct score at 11/8* (betting odds taken from Boylesports on December 28th, 2019 at 10:53 pm)
