Millwall News and Form – Can the Lions build on their excellent start?
Neil Harris’ Millwall have made a strong start to the season. The Lions kicked off their Championship campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Alex Neil’s Preston North End at The Den, with Jed Wallace scoring the only goal of the game.
Millwall then battled to a draw at The Hawthorns last weekend. Slaven Bilic’s men took the lead courtesy of an Alex Pearce own goal. However, the Londoners were not to be denied, with summer signing Matt Smith levelling things up with just 15 minutes left. The Lions held on for a 1-1 draw. Millwall then came from behind to beat West Bromwich Albion 2-1 at The Hawthorns in the first round of the EFL Cup in midweek.
Millwall finished in eighth spot in the 2017-18 Championship campaign, but they had a season to forget last time around. Harris’ troops just avoided relegation, finishing only four points above the drop zone in 21st place. The London outfit struggled at home, winning a mere seven times on their own patch.
Having claimed an impressive four points from two tough fixtures so far, Millwall will be eyeing up another positive result on Saturday.

Sheffield Wednesday, who are under the caretaker management of Lee Bullen, have made an exceptional start to their season. They had a turbulent summer, with Steve Bruce leaving to take over at Newcastle United, and several long-serving players moving on.
However, Wednesday have knuckled down and picked up back-to-back Championship wins. On the opening weekend of the season, Kadeem Harris, Sam Hutchinson and Lucas Joao were the scorers in a 3-1 win at Reading.
At Hillsborough last Saturday, Jacob Murphy’s goal after two minutes sent them on their way to another victory. Steven Fletcher added a second on the hour mark to give Bullen’s boys a comfortable 2-0 home win over Barnsley. The Owls have lost just four Championship games in 2019, and they could be dark horses in the race for promotion this season.
Sheffield Wednesday are the early leaders of the Championship having taken maximum points thus far, and the Yorkshire club will be gunning for nine points from a possible nine in London at the weekend. At the time of writing, Wednesday are available at 19/10 to pick up the win.
