Monday Haydock 12:45: Betfred offer 5/2 racing odds on Clareyblue – 8th June 2020

Brad The Brief can take exciting Haydock contest

Horse Racing Betting

Race 2 from Haydock on Monday looks as if it could be a good juicy contest. This is a Class 3 handicap which is open to 3-year-olds. The going is good to soft for the action which is a 6f contest.

There are 12 declared for the handicap, but there is some clear favouritism at the head of the market. Will it be the two-horse show that the bookmakers are predicting it to be?

Clareyblue is the one to beat in Haydock contest

CLAREYBLUE is the 5/2 outright favourite* (betting odds taken from Betfred at 20:46 GMT on Sunday, June 7th 2020) for this contest. The 3-year-old colt broke his maiden on his last run. That was at Newcastle on the all-weather surface in early January this year.

It wasn’t a particularly fast pace in the contest, however (because of mud), which is something to bear in mind as he looks as if he is going to come under pressure. Still, it has been a very solid start to his career, not having been outside of the places. Can he deliver a win on the turf?

Powertrain should push close

There will be plenty of appeal for Irish challenger POWERTRAIN this contest. He goes from a 13/2 mark* (betting odds taken from Betfred at 20:46 GMT on Sunday, June 7th 2020). His last effort was at Newmarket in November last year but was outside of the places.

That saw him miss out on his hat trick however and it was up at Class 2 so takes a drop back down. The first of those wins happened at Newmarket over the 6F distances having been the second favourite for the run. He should have some claims here.

Can Brad The Brief build on the impressive 2-year-old form?

BRAD THE BRIEF won three of his four runs as a 2-year-old so he brings claims. Going from a mark of 90 does seem to be a little steep on him, meaning that is going to have to find some improvement.

Two of his three wins did happen on the turf and he heads back into action after a 220-day break looking to score a hattrick.

The last win that Brad The Brief took was at Newmarket over the 6f distance. He is currently the 11/4 second-favourite* (betting odds taken from Betfred at 20:46 GMT on Sunday, June 7th 2020).

Gobi Sunset can shine brightly

There are some claims for this handicap from GOBI SUNSET as well. He is also on a hatrack after wins at Ayr and Yarmouth. The latter of those happened in the middle of September last year.

He is coming up in class in this one, but there is enough there to warrant some respect. He was heading in the right direction at the end of last season and likes to take it on the front.

Other Contenders

We have to have a quick look at COBRA EYE who goes from 89 at a big 14/1 poke* (betting odds taken from Betfred at 20:46 GMT on Sunday, June 7th 2020). He is better than his performances in listed company at the end of last season suggests.

He scored a good 6f success before that dip at Glorious Goodwood, so there’s a chance he can get back. Cobra Eye has previously placed at Haydock.

Out there at 16/1 odds is MACHO TIME* (betting odds taken from Betfred at 20:46 GMT on Sunday, June 7th 2020). He started his career with a bang, scoring in back to back 6f contests at Ayr and Redcar.

After a break, his form took a nosedive, but now after a longer break, it will be interesting to see if he rediscovers some of that early spark as an each-way option.

Predictions & Tips

BRAD THE BRIEF really looks to be the stand out contender in this one. He has been gelded and dug out the most recent success in some tough mud conditions at Newmarket.

So he is likely to be strong, while the mark of 90 is a little off-putting he warrants some big respect and we will have to swing things in his favour to knock off the favourite.

CLAREYBLUE is a front runner and should be there or thereabouts without question, but we just fancy Brad The Brief to push on from his 2-year-old career.

The other contender that we like is GOBI SUNSET who was making some progressive headway at the end of last season. Like Clareyblue he is a good front runner and could disrupt things if the field let him have his way.
