Monday Racing Taunton 16.40 Odds – Amigos hoping to make friends at 5/2 with Bet365

Martin stayer can give weight to inferior rivals

Horse Racing Betting

While most attention is focused on Cheltenham, there are five meetings on Monday in which punters will be hoping to earn some betting money for the Festival.

Taunton, Stratford and Plumpton have all survived an inspection so it’s a busy day for jockeys and trainers up and down the country.

The feature race at Taunton is the William Hill Best Odds Guaranteed Handicap Chase over 3m4f, which has attracted six runners.

Amigos can utilise staying power

Having run well in top-class staying handicaps the last twice, THE TWO AMIGOS should appreciate the lower grade.
Nicky Martin’s front-runner is a real mud-lark but didn’t enjoy being taken on for the lead last time at Haydock, though still finished ahead of Pobbles Bay.
He is far more likely to get his own way out in front today and will take some pegging back if still ahead off the home turn. The top weight can be backed at 5/2 with Bet365.

Dylan determined to improve on last year’s effort

Second in the race last year when carrying 5lb more, Rolling Dylan must have every chance of going one better.
Philip Hobbs’ nine-year-old rarely runs a bad race but was only third when favourite last time at Ludlow and it could be argued that he isn’t quite in the same form as 12 months ago. There will, however, be plenty of takers at the general 11/4

Going concerns surrounding Gabriel

Among six chase victories for Fort Gabriel is one at Taunton.
He has produced a couple of decent runs at Ludlow since returning from a break but there has to be a question mark over whether 3m4f in the mud is really his cup of tea.
None of his wins have come on ground worse than good to soft and he will probably do better when the going dries out. Available at a best 13/2.

City may not be the force of old

Dawson City was pulled up when in pursuit of a hat-trick of Devon National victories at Exeter last month.
Apart from a fourth in a muddling race at Ascot previously, Polly Gundry’s veteran has not really fired this campaign and age may finally be taking its toll.
This less-competitive contest may be more to his liking nowadays but he looks a risky proposition at 7/1 with Paddy Power.

Spirit may not be willing

Oliver Sherwood managed to find a couple of soft races for Seaston Spirit in December but the bubble well and truly burst at Chepstow in January.
He is better bullying lesser chasers than receiving weight from superior rivals and looks too high in the weights now. We can’t be interested in the general 7/1
