Napoli News and Form

Napoli need to get their home form going again as they try to haul themselves back into this tie. It is a 2-0 deficit that the Partenopei have to make up. They started the season up in the Champions League where they booked third place behind PSG and Liverpool. They eased into the Europa League with a 5-1 aggregate success over Zurich before getting the better of RB Salzburg 4-3 on aggregate in the last round. This is just their second appearance in the quarterfinals of the Europa League, Napoli winning their previous appearance 6-3 over Wolfsburg in the 2014/15 season.

Napoli have won five of their seven home fixtures against Premier League opposition (D1 L1). That includes a win over Liverpool this season in the UCL. This season Napoli have won four of five home games in Europe and in that sequence of matches they only conceded two goals. Their home record in the knocked phase of the Europa League is W5 D5 L2. The Italians have suffered the one defeat in Naples all season in all competitions, that being against Juventus in Serie A. The Partenopei have won only three of the 12 UEFA competition ties in which they have lost the first leg away.

Key-Facts – Napoli v Arsenal

  • Napoli are undefeated at home in Europe this season
  • Napoli took a UCL win over Liverpool at home earlier this season
  • Arsenal have won five of their last nine games in Italy

Arsenal News and Form

So can Arsenal defend their 2-0 advantage on the road? They did get through to the semi-finals last season after beating CSKA Moscow 6-3 on aggregate. The Gunners only dropped two points in the group stage this season but then they have had their ups and downs in the knockout phase. Arsenal lost the first leg of both of their ties against BATE and Rennes in the round of 32 and round of 16 respectively, before turning things around on home soil. The only previous time that Arsenal went up against Napoli was in the 2013/14 Champions League group stage.

Back in that 2013/14 season Arsenal and Napoli traded 2-0 home wins, so that scoreline has cropped up in all three previous competitive matches between these two. The Gunners hold an away record of W6 D4 L6 in Italy. They haven’t done too bad there recently, winning five of their last nine visits. That includes last season’s visit to AC Milan in the round of sixteen when Arsenal produced a 2-0 success at the San Siro.

The Gunners have won both of their previous European quarter-finals against Serie A opposition without conceding a goal. In total through this season’s Europa League campaign Arsenal have picked up six clean sheets. From their previous twelve away games played in the Europa League, Arsenal are at W7 D1 L4. Arsenal have progressed in 16 of the 18 previous occasions of winning the first leg at home in UEFA competition.

Napoli v Arsenal Predictions

Napoli to win: The Italians are not going to go down without a fight on home soil in this tie. They have plenty to play for and Arsenal aren’t the greatest of away sides. If Napoli get the first goal, this tie blows wide open. Napoli to win at 4/5 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on April 13th, 2019 at 5:02 p.m.).
