England’s Nathan Aspinall has made great progress through the PDC Darts World Championship and he will line up in the quarter finals against Belgium’s Dimitri Van den Bergh. Both of them came through fourth round fixtures against higher seeded opponents.

The Asp with plenty of bite

After getting past Danny Baggish and Krysztof Ratajski, 12th seed Nathan Aspinall was paired up with former champion Gary Anderson in the fourth round. It was the real first heavyweight clash for both of them in this season’s World Championship draw. Despite 5th seed Anderson and Apsinall really slugging it out toe to toe in scoring, it was the Asp who pulled out to a 4-2 victory. So that is one major scalp for the 27 year old, who is steadily edging closer to what he achieved at the previous edition. Aspinall was a losing semi finalist twelve months ago and is not to be dismissed. Having seen off Anderson, he goes as favourite for this quarter final scrap with Van den Bergh.

Head to head

The two players have met three times before and Aspinall won all three meetings. Two of those meetings were during this season as well, with the Asp taking a 6-1 and 6-3 victory over Van den Bergh in Players Championship events.

Can The DreamMaker keep the dream alive?

Belgium’s Dimitri Van den Bergh, another great young talent like Apsinall on the PDC, has matched his previous best effort at the PDC Darts World Championship. The DreamMaker made the quarter finals in 2018 and he was beaten by eventual winner Rob Cross at that stage. Like Apsinall, Ban den Bergh also saw off a higher seeded opponent in the last round. The DreamMaker dispatched two-time champion Adrian Lewis from the Ally Pally Party and although he needed a deciding set to get the job done, he held his nerve well.

Nathan Aspinall v Dimitri van den Bergh Prediction and tip

This should be a very good contest. Both have been scoring consistently well and Van den Bergh does not look as if he is going to go away lightly. We expect the Belgian to fall to Aspinall, who is just raising his stock in the game once again. But this won’t be a walkover wit the pressure on. The Asp to win, but the total Sets Over 7.5 at evens*(betting odds taken from bet365 on December 28th, 2019 at 10:24 pm) in this best of nine.
