This is a Grade 3 race with a competitive 16-runners declared for the contest which is over a 2m 4f trip.

Among the well-supported charges for this contest are ALNADAM and FUNAMBULE SIVOLA but the claims in the Cheltenham field run much deeper.

It’s going to be a fascinating spectacle to start the new year of horse racing betting.

We look at the key contenders in New Year’s Day Handicap Chase Racing Odds and make our predictions.

Alnadam 9/2 FAV in New Year’s Day Handicap Chase Racing Odds

ALNADAM is trading strongly in Cheltenham horse racing betting for January 1st as he’s the current 9/2 favourite* (odds recorded at 21:12 GMT on December 31st, 2021 at Paddy Power).

He made some rapid improvement over the fences last season, taking a couple of wins at the 20f distance.

On his return to action 42 days ago he went into a deep contest at Haydock and that was just too much for him.

Alnadam took a fourth-place finish here, but now on the return to handicap company, he should have a chance of rediscovering his winning touch.

COOLE CODY
6/1

Funamble Sivola has a big challenge in him

Another of the big players in this field could be FUNAMBULE SIVOLA who is the joint-favourite at the time of writing with some bookies.

There was a fantastic campaign by Funamble Sivola over the fences last season, claiming four chase wins.

He will likely be better for his reappearance run which was a month ago at Huntingdon.

Funamble Sivola took an encouraging second-place finish in that one and is a massive player on his return to handicapping.

With a yard that is in good form, Funamble Sivola is a threat from 6/1* (odds recorded at 21:12 GMT on December 31st, 2021 at Paddy Power)

Coole Cody can’t be taken lightly

There should be a reasonable challenge to come from COOLE CODY as well in this fixture if he puts it all together on the day.

He does usually perform around Cheltenham so he can’t be taken lightly.

Coole Cody is a quote of 6/1 to land the win* (odds recorded at 21:12 GMT on December 31st, 2021 at Paddy Power).

He has won twice before at course and distance from five previous such efforts, winning three times in total at Cheltenham.

The good thing about Coole Cody is that he is a battler and will fight.

He was a good winner of a Grade 3 course and distance run three weeks ago by a couple of lengths. This is tougher, but Coole Cody is a threat.

Riders Onthe Storm is no forlorn hope

Can RIDERS ONTHE STORM get himself involved in this one? He will be opening for a much better season than last.

He lost his way a little bit in the previous campaign but has since switched to a new yard.

On his first go for new connections, there was a very good second place at Aintree in a handicap effort a month ago.

That was after a break of nine months.

So that was more encouraging stuff by Riders Onthe Storm who did have a cracking chasing season in 2019/20.

He’s not to be ruled out if he can build on that reappearance and he is a quote of 10/1 in horse racing betting* (odds recorded at 21:12 GMT on December 31st, 2021 at Paddy Power).

Simply The Betts worth another look?

SIMPLY THE BETTS pulled up on his latest effort which was Grade 2 effort at Aintree a month ago.

But he’s not to be totally dismissed from this one after that, which was his second run for his new yard.

To open for new connections Simply The Betts did put in an encouraging run at Cheltenham.

The drop in grade could help him fight his way into contention and looking back at his previous 2019/20 form then he has it in him.

Simply The Betts is a quote of 10/1 in horse racing betting* (odds recorded at 21:12 GMT on December 31st, 2021 at Paddy Power).

Others to note

ZANZA has gone reasonably well this season, put in very encouraging efforts in two of three chases this season.

He was second to Coole Cody in a Grade 3 course and distance handicap three weeks ago. Connections now reach for the cheek pieces and Zanza comes up 2lb.

VIENNA COURT was a winner last time out as she delivered the goods in a mares’ course and distance handicap three weeks ago.

That ended a losing streak for her and she took that by 11 lengths. Saturday’s challenge is much tougher and Vienna Court is up 12lb.

KAUTO RIKO is probably worth a cook after a good second-place finish in a 3m trip at Doncaster three weeks ago.

He was finishing very strongly in that one. Kauto Riko is handed the cheekpieces for the first time and place claims could be there.

DEYRANN DE CARJAC is on a reduced mark which could help him mount a reasonable challenge in this one.

He did pick up a Grade 2 win in the 2019/20 campaign and a recent fifth to Coole Cody three weeks ago at course and distance suggests that a revival is happening.

Predictions & Tips for New Year’s Day Handicap Chase Racing Odds

The first on the shortlist for this fascinating Cheltenham effort is COOLE CODY who took a very good course and distance three weeks ago against some of these.

From a quote of 13/2 he takes preference in horse racing betting on Saturday to overcome his career-high mark and push on* (odds recorded at 21:12 GMT on December 31st, 2021 at Paddy Power).

SIMPLY THE BETTS is down in grade and down in distance after failing to stay 3m last time out. But there were encouraging signs from him before that and they could make his presence felt.

The other that piques interest is ZANZA who produced a good challenge to Cool Cody at C&D three weeks ago. With the addition of cheekpieces and further experience under his belt, he rates as a danger.
