Palace Pier the 8/13 FAV in Lockinge Stakes racing odds

This race looks to be all about PALACE PIER the 8/13 favourite* (odds recorded at 11:50 GMT on May 14th, 2021 at Ladbrokes).

He looks imperious and having won a reappearance, he looks as if he is going to take some stopping.

Three weeks ago Palace Pier returned for the new season and picked up a win in a Group 2 at Sandown.

That was a very impressive win as well as he crushed Bless Him by 8 lengths in the bet365 Mile.

Last season as a 3-year-old Palace Pier claimed a couple of Group 1 victories, one of those at Royal Ascot in the St James’s Palace.

He is the highest-rated flat horse around at the moment with Timeform. It’s hard to find a case to not back him in this one.

My Oberon solid for the places

MY OBERON looks to be strong enough to get himself well in the mix for the places at the Lockinge Stakes.

He won on his reappearance, which was a month ago at Newmarket in a Group 3 contest. He doesn’t look to be near his ceiling yet.

My Oberon should develop further inot a high-quality miler. It is going to be interesting to see him be competitive at this grade.

We think that he needs a little more time to get to the top of his game.

But he’s on a good track at the moment for Willie Haggas and should have place claims from 9/1* (odds recorded at 11:50 GMT on May 14th, 2021 at Ladbrokes).

Lope Y Fernandez to build on a good return

There was a win for LOPE Y FERNANDEZ on his reappearance run as well for Aidan O’Brien. After going winless last season, that will have been a relief.

That score was taken at Leopardstown a month ago. He had been eased in grade and duly delivered. It looks more of a move to sharpen him on a reappearance than anything else.

Lope Y Fernandez signed off last season in the Breeders’ Cup Mile, claiming third there. It was a total of four place finishes that he earned at Group 1 in the previous campaign.

There should be more to come from him this season. But we still wonder if he is anywhere near the current level of Palace Pier.

Top Rank going the right way

TOP RANK took his form to a whole new place with a Group 3 victory at Haydock in the Autumn. That raised his credentials massively.

He was running under penalty for his reappearance, which was at Doncaster on his return. Top Rank shrugged that off to collect the win.

So there have been positive signs for him. This is a big jump up in grade for him, but he’s not a forlorn hope for a run at the places.

There are solid enough credentials there for that and Top Rank is an 8/1 shot* (odds recorded at 11:50 GMT on May 14th, 2021 at Ladbrokes).

Safe Voyage can compete for the places

The longer-priced SAFE VOYAGE at 16/1 looks to have reasonable place claims* (odds recorded at 11:50 GMT on May 14th, 2021 at Ladbrokes).

This is his reappearance run but there were impressive moments from him last season. The smart gelding won three times last term.

Two of those were at Group 2, wins delivered at York and Leopardstown. He has been going very well for his yard. This is a much together assignment still, but he’s not without place claims.

The rest of the runners

BLESS HIM has had a couple of solid runs the last two times but needs a career-best to get anywhere near this. He was heavily beaten by Palace Pier on his latest outing.

CENTURY DREAM comes back for a reappearance. He won a Group 3 over course and distance last season and in a Group 2 at Goodwood. This is a tougher task.

HAPPY POWER was third behind winner Palace Pier at Sandown on his return to action. He was well held there and is likely to be a better operator over a shorter trip than this.

LORD CAMPARI claimed a C&D novice last season but never followed it up with any kind of positive form. He’s unexposed, but not a major threat in this by the looks of it.

LORD GLITTERS has won a couple of times this season, at Group 2 and at Group 1. Those were in Dubai when he was thriving. If the conditions are right, place claims are not unreasonable.

POGO won a listed race at Leicester on his season opener. He looks a handy sort, but whether he’s up to this grade is another matter.

LADY BOWTHORPE picked up the Dahlia Stakes on her reappearance a couple of weeks ago against her own sex. Much more will be needed to make an impression in this.

Predictions & Tips for Lockinge Stakes Racing Odds

We have to stick with PALACE PIER as the 8/13 favourite because he looks head and shoulders above this field* (odds recorded at 11:50 GMT on May 14th, 2021 at Ladbrokes).

He is just going to go from strength to strength and his one defeat in his career on Champions Day at Ascot last season was easily forgivable.

So we are largely talking about place claims as horse racing tips. MY OBERON appeals massively at 9/1 for that* (odds recorded at 11:50 GMT on May 14th, 2021 at Ladbrokes). He has a high ceiling.

The other will be a 16/1 shot SAFE VOYAGE who appears to be a little underrated for the contest* (odds recorded at 11:50 GMT on May 14th, 2021 at Ladbrokes).

He has something to prove at this grade, but we think he could have a say.
