Withhold hold favouritism in the market
Heading up the market for the Sagaro Stakes is WITHHOLD at 10/3* (betting odds taken from Paddy Power at 21:49 GMT on Friday, June 5th 2020). The 7 year old gelding only took a 5th of 9 on his last effort, behind Royal Line in that Long Distance Cup effort on Champions Day.
But he has won two of his last four efforts since coming back from wind surgery. He sparkled in winning the 2018 Northumberland Plate, beating Prince of Arran into second place. So Withhold will be looking for some joy back at the track. He is being well-fancied to get back on track.
Prince of Arran could be back stronger
After missing out to Withhold in that 2018 Northumberland Plate, PRINCE OF ARRAN warrants some respect. He is used to some big company as well and took a wonderful second place finish in the Melbourne Cup in early November.
He only missed out on that by a nose as well. One advantage that he has over some of the other main contenders is more recent action. It’s less than 100 days since his last effort in taking a third place finish at Riyadh in a Longines Handicap.

Can Ispolini make winning return?
It will be a 265 day break ends for ISPOLINI as he steps out at Newcastle on the weekend. He did score a win on his last run which was in Dortmund in September last year. He took the Deutsches St Leger Group 3 Stakes in a field of 13.
That was the third win in his last five runs after proving to be a very solid performer in a nice swing at Meydan. He has the distance in him without question.

Royal Line in contention
ROYAL LINE returns from a 215 day break after failing to make any kind of impact in a shooter trip at Kempton. He didn’t do a bad job in taking a third place finish at 15 1/2 furlongs at Ascot in the Long Distance Cup (Group 2) behind Kew Gardens.
Withhold was fifth in that contest. That was a considerable step up in trip for Royal Line and will have to find even more at 2m. But that having been said he has been well supported from 9/2* (betting odds taken from Paddy Power at 21:49 GMT on Friday, June 5th 2020).
Other contenders
ALRIGHT SUNSHINE does bring some good form to the table after progressing well last season. He has won four of seven efforts including, three of them coming in his last four. His latest success was at Ayr in September. It’s the lack of higher-grade races that poses a big question mark.
Another with a bit of solid form is MILDENBERGER who is on a hattrick. The last win he took was at Chelmsford in March this year in a Tote Conditions Stakes. He has been a very solid and reliable runner and could have outside place claims.
RAINBOW DREAMER got the better of MILDENBERGER in a January Kempton run, as he claimed the win. It’s been four straight wins from Rainbow Warrior who is coming along well. He does have five wins from five on the all-weather, has a good draw from 4 and could mix it up with the market leaders in pace. The 7 year old is a good e/w option from 11/1* (betting odds taken from Paddy Power at 21:49 GMT on Friday, June 5th 2020).
Predictions & Tips
There is a really good race lining up here. We are going to buck the favourite and take a serious look at the PRINCE OF ARRAN who had made the trip to Dubai for World Cup night, which was subsequently cancelled.
But he has more current form than a lot of the contenders in this one and enjoys the track as seen from his second place in the 2018 Northumberland Plate. So he has plenty of appeal for us.
We like the look of outsider shot RAINBOW WARRIOR as well in this tough company. He is just coming on leaps and bounds and while this is a step up, there could be place claims.
ISPOLINI is another to watch because he was going very well in his Meydan swing and delivered the goods in the German St Leger. He warrants some respect.
