Overcourt looks too tough to beat at Newcastle

Horse Racing Betting

The evening horse racing betting from Newcastle features this class 4 handicap hurdle. There is a 2m 4f trip around the track for the competitors in this one. There were eight entered, but the field is down to seven with So Lonely having been pulled. Holding some strong ground at the head of the market is Overcourt.

Overcourt

Overcourt heads into action at Newcastle on Saturday evening with jockey Ryan Mania in form, as well as trainer Alan Thompson. So it’s a great partnership here for Overcourt, who has been lightly worked.

He was an odds-on winner at 2m 4f novices at Musselburgh just a couple of weeks ago. Is 5lb heavier for this trip and he has largely been all the rage in the betting for this race at 11/10* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 2103 GMT on Friday, 13th March 2020)

Do Not Disturb e/w

Federici

The eleven year old veteran rolled back the years a couple of weeks ago when he landed a win at Sedgefield. That was at a price of 33/1 over the hurdles. It was the first time that he had been over the hurdles since 2016. The form before that was non-existent in chase action. Has he found a late-career flourish? Federici is at 10/3 option* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 2103 GMT on Friday, 13th March 2020).

Do Not Disturb

Do Not Disturb posted a win on his hurdle debut in late October which was at Kelso. He hasn’t quite hit the mark since going 0-2 and pulled up in his last effort back at Kelso. His chances can’t totally be dismissed in this one because that debut did show some solid form. With the break since the end of the year and the stable looking in better form, he could be a player 8/1* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 2103 GMT on Friday, 13th March 2020)

Rest of the Runners

Big Bad Dream has not been having a totally convincing time of things. He heavily hit the last hurdle at Kelso in December but did end up beaten only by Skyhill. He was 4th at Ayr in his follow up and then unseated his rider at Musselburgh in his most recent trip. He was already beaten in the race and now gets the blinkers.

Carrigmoorna Matt claimed a win at Wetherby late April. He is now 11lb lower than when he achieved that, which just about sums up his lack of form. He pulled up on his last run which was at Sedgefield in October last year.

Burdigala has had two runs under rules and that’s it. His debut in the UK for the French import happened in December last year when he was 7th. There’s just not enough there to trust.

Kauta D’Amour may be able to run himself into the frame for a place finish in this one. He banked a win at Newcastle at 2m at the end of January. He didn’t make an impact on a similar trip at Sedgefield a month later. He has been well tested over 2 miles.

Predictions & Tips

We usually like to dig around the field a bit for options, but we are going straight to the top. Overcoat did such a wonderful job on his debut at Musselburgh in February.

On the basis of that, he should be able to handle a 5lb rise against this kind of opposition. Veteran Federici is fascinating after his hurdles return, but we don’t see him or anyone beating the favourite. Do Not Disturb may be worth an each-way, especially if he drifts from 8s.
