Favourite Medal Winner may not get his own way in Newcastle closer

Horse Racing Betting

This week’s Newcastle action on the all-weather continues on Tuesday. It’s an eerily strange situation at an almost deserted Gosforth Park, but that’s the way it is. The weather could play its part on Tuesday.

There could be a bit of rain knocking around on the Tapeta. Race 10 is the last of the day and it is a Class 3 handicap. There are 12 declared for the contest which is open to 4 year olds and above. The distance is at 1m 2f.

Medal Winner seeks another win

The impressive French challenger MEDAL WINNER is leading the betting for this one to the tune of 7/2* (betting odds taken from Ladbrokes at 21:57 GMT on Monday, June 1st, 2020). The exciting 4 year old scored on his last trip, a 10f effort at Brighton.

This will be his bow at Newcastle and on all-weather too. So he does warrant some respect here along with him going off a 90 rating. The claims are there as he has more to come. But this is no straight forward field that he is up against.

Cockalorum e/w
12/1

Ladbrokes

Cockalorum can spring a surprise

COCKALORUM stays at the same 89 OR that he was on his last effort which was at Newmarket. In that run, he took fourth in what was a really good effort in a competitive handicap. He did take on some richer company than this year late last season, and the distance winner is an e/w consideration from 12/1* (betting odds taken from Ladbrokes at 21:57 GMT on Monday, June 1st, 2020).

Cape Cavalli can be excused for last effort

Irish runner CAPE CAVALLI has the tools necessary to get into this one. He took on some better company in the Old Rowley Cup Handicap in early October, taking 9th of 19. Before that, he was in sparkling form around this level, consistently in the places. He scored a win at Goodwood, three races before heading into the break. Certainly cannot be ignored at 10/3 in this company* (betting odds taken from Ladbrokes at 21:57 GMT on Monday, June 1st, 2020).

All-weather winner Sucellus a contender

Colt SUCELLUS comes in for his first run for his new yard, now with Roger Fell and he looks a real threat. In this last race, he scored a win, beating Cape Cavalli by a short head.

That was in a Class 4 handicap over a 10f trip at Sandown. That was after returning from a lengthy break (albeit not as long as this one). It’s five runs, nothing outside of the places, with two wins in his career. He ticks a lot of the right boxes.

Moll Davis

The highly-rated MOLL DAVIS is worth a look as well. She has won two of her last five trips after all. The last run that she had was at Nantes claiming a third of five in that one. That was in Listed Stakes company and her last two efforts have been against tough quality. The potential is certainly there and not to be dismissed against the boys from 5/1* (betting odds taken from Ladbrokes at 21:57 GMT on Monday, June 1st, 2020).

Predictions & Tips

There are plenty of claims in this one and there is a lot of excitement about the favourite MEDAL WINNER. However, we see better value elsewhere.

That is in SUCELLUS who has scored on the all-weather before and has been carrying some wonderful form. If he picks up where he left off, he has every chance of pushing his nose into contention.

Our e/w option for the race would easily fall on the shoulders of COCKALORUM.
