Newcastle News and Form – Can Newcastle claim back-to-back league wins?

Newcastle pulled off a massive shock last weekend. They claimed a 1-0 win at Tottenham. Considering that Newcastle had tamely lost their opening two games of the season against Arsenal and Norwich, that win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium came from nowhere. Club record transfer signing Joelinton got their goal inside the first half-hour and then it was back to the wall performance. The Magpies played with massive commitment and desire to fight.

Can they tap into that again this weekend when they go into what appears to be a much easier game? Considering the terrible form that Watford are in, this is a great fixture for the Magpies. Suddenly they could make it back to back wins, boss Steve Bruce would cut a relaxed figure and Tyneside would be a happy place for a while. In their one home game this season in the EPL, Newcastle lost 1-0 against Arsenal, barely raising an attacking threat. They hosted Leicester in the EFL Cup in midweek and lost in a penalty shootout.

However, the last week has taken a toll on Newcastle. They have a big injury list now which includes record signing Joelinton who missed midweek action along with Miguel Almiron. Allan Saint-Maximin was already out along with the likes of DeAndre Yedlin and Jack Colback. Bruce could be missing more than ten of his first-team squad because of injury this weekend. That’s going to suck for them as they don’t have the greatest of depth. Each of Newcastle’s last three games against Watford this season have gone under 2.5 goals.

Watford News and Form – Can Watford earn their first win of the season?

Watford’s boss Javi Gracia may be close to getting the sack. Yes, Watford have lost their opening three games of this league season, but that’s not the bigger picture. Watford have claimed only two wins in their last twelve league games under his guidance. Their record in their last twelve league games is a shocking W2 D1 L9. That’s why the pressure on Gracia is there. So he’s probably playing for his job on Saturday. Watford’s losses this season have been at home against Brighton and West Ham, away at Everton.

The Hornets have come up with one league goal this season only, which was netted by Andre Gray last weekend against West Ham. That is the sum of it for them. Watford produced a W6 D5 L8 record on their top-flight travels last season. They were undefeated in their road fixtures against the bottom seven finishers. So that is one positive which they can take forward with them into this one. They also have a fully fit squad aside from Troy Deeney.

But back to the negatives. Watford are on a six-match losing streak in the top flight. Five of those six games went over 2.5 goals. The Hornets have shipped at least two goals in five of their last six league fixtures. Their defence has looked nothing short of a chaotic shambles this season. But still, because Newcastle are facing a little bit of an injury crisis, this is a chance for Watford to get something on the board. It may be their last chance for a while as they face Arsenal and Man City after this.

Newcastle v Watford Predictions

Newcastle to win: It will be fascinating to see now if Newcastle can maintain the high levels they set for themselves last weekend. They won’t get a better game in which to test that at the moment. Watford are all at sea in defence. Home win by a 1 goal margin.
