After the colts on Saturday, it’s the turn of the fillies in Sunday’s Qipco 1000 Guineas at Newmarket.
This is the second British Classic of the season, it is six weeks later than planned but at least racing’s HQ is managing to stage the race though what impact or influence the one mile race will have on the rest of the season remains to be seen.

1000 Guineas History
The 1000 Guineas, run on the Rowley Mile, is the youngest of the British Classics.
The first 1000 Guineas was run in 1814 and won by Charlotte, ridden by Bill Clift and owned by Christopher Wilson, the same combination responsible for Wizard, the first winner of the 2000 Guineas in 1809.
A total of 47 three-year-old fillies have won both the 1000 Guineas and the Oaks but Kazzia was the last in 2002 and it’s unlikely we’ll be seeing this year’s winner at Epsom given the compaction of the programme.

1000 Guineas Predictions
Jason Watson conjured a late run out of Quadrilateral to pip Powerful Breeze in the Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket in October with Love (9/2 with Coral) third and Boomer (14/1 with Betway) fifth.
Roger Charlton’s filly is still unbeaten and probably capable of further improvement this year so it is no surprise she is the 5/2 favourite with 888sport.
This, however, is a race in which market leaders have been vulnerable in recent years and the form book has already taken few knocks at this meeting.
Millise (a general 5/1) beat hot favourite RAFFLE PRIZE in the Cheveley Park at Newmarket in the autumn but that was over 6f.
Jessica Harrington’s filly is only a best 5/1 with the Mark Johnston runner at double those odds having a couple of lengths to find. But it’s not hard to imagine that Mickael Barzalona’s mount will take a step forward now tackling a mile and she has already shown that she likes Newmarket. At the current odds, the latter looks a cracking each-way bet.
