Kinross the 11/4 FAV in Newmarket Criterion Stakes Odds

KINROSS made a good return to winning ways last time out. He delivered a cracking performance to score at Haydock 28 days ago.

He always looked as if he had a top run like that in him. Finally, he delivered in taking the Group 3 score on a 7f trip.

That was in the John Of Gaunt Stakes. He had one of the key challengers for Saturday behind him in that one, namely Glorious Journey.

Kinross is 11/4 to get the win on Saturday, new form having been found* (odds recorded at 21:09 GMT on June 25th, 2021 at Ladbrokes).

His Haydock success was after some disappointing returns in Dubai. But a gelding operation and drop in trip brought the best out of him.

There is a 3lb penalty in the weights for Kinross to deal with, but the son of Kingman looks good for that.

Can Glorious Journey overturn Kinross?

GLORIOUS JOURNEY was almost three lengths behind Kinross on the John Of Gaunt Stakes at Haydock last time out.

That put him in third place in the contest. But there is reason to believe that Glorious Journey will at least close the gap a little bit.

The revised terms sees him 3lb better off against that particular rival. The downside for Glorious Journey is obviously that Kinross appears to have hit form.

Still, with a solid season for Charlie Appleby’s 6-year-old so far, his consistency puts him well in the mix with place claims.

Glorious Journey is a 5/1 quote in Newmarket Criterion Stakes odds* (odds recorded at 21:09 GMT on June 25th, 2021 at Ladbrokes)

Motakhayyel not without a shout

We know that MOTAKHAYYEL can perform at Newmarket. He has done it before, winning at course and distance last July in the Bunbury Cup.

He defied a heavy mark in that one to get the score, but he hasn’t quite lived up to things in group company since then.

There has been below par form from Motakhayyel, but he did get a decent reappearance run under his belt, taking second place.

Last time out at Ascot on a 7f trip, he was well down the field, but the ground looked far too soft for him. Quicker going at Newmarket, a winning track, should help him.

Motakheyyal is 7/1 in Newmarket Criterion Stakes odds* (odds recorded at 21:09 GMT on June 25th, 2021 at Ladbrokes).

Will The Lir Jet thrive on a drop in class?

THE LIR JET is a quote of 14/1 for this contest* (odds recorded at 21:09 GMT on June 25th, 2021 at Ladbrokes).

But he is lowering his sights for Saturday’s run, so he could have a shot at the places.

Just a year ago we saw The Lir Jet land the Norfolk Stakes, but he has hit a little bit of a wall since then.

His best run this season was a third-place finish in the Greenham on his reappearance, but he has since followed that up without getting in the frame.

The Lir Jet was well held in the Sandy Lane at Haydock, before taking seventh in at Royal Ascot in the Commonwealth Cup.

The latest of those efforts was in heavy ground, not giving him a chance. It will be interesting to see if The Lir Jet has a run in him on the firmer stuff.

Can Tinker Toy make his mark?

Roger Varian’s TINKER TOY is an 11/1 quote for the Criterion* (odds recorded at 21:09 GMT on June 25th, 2021 at Ladbrokes).

The 4-year-old has been in great form, landing a reappearance win in a Newcastle handicap.

That was a month ago. It moved him on to three wins in four racetrack appearances. The distance is the question mark here.

That win at Newcastle was on a 1m trip, so will this drop to the 7f mark suit him?

Regardless, he looks to have plenty of potential. Tinker Toy looks built for better stuff at higher levels.

The rest of the runners

DUKE OF HAZZARD hasn’t found any kind of form this season and now looks a long way from 2019 Group company winning form.

LORD OF THE LODGE has been very consistent as of late, with a win and three runner-up spots in his last four. The latest of those was a second-place at Leopardstown in a Group 3 so he should be in this.

MUMS TIPPLE scored a listed win at Wolverhampton in March and followed up with a second at the same level in Leicester. He didn’t go as well at Salisbury last time out, however.

ROYAL CRUSADE was a Group 3 winner in France last year. His last two efforts have been in Dubai and he didn’t make an impact in either.

WITH THANKS was thriving a year ago, but she was a long way behind Kinross at Haydock on her reappearance a month ago. This is probably going to be too quick for her.

APOLLO ONE landed a reappearance win at Linfield. He has not been close to backing that up since then and may struggle to show.

Predictions & Tips for Newmarket Criterion Stakes Racing Odds

This is a good renewal of the Criterion Stakes at Newmarket. For our horse racing betting we have to stick with KINROSS at 11/4* (odds recorded at 21:09 GMT on June 25th, 2021 at Ladbrokes).

His victory at Haydock after a gelding operation, saw him deliver the kind of run that connections had been waiting for.

We expect him to push on up through the gears of progress from there.

GLORIOUS JOURNEY definitely rates at great as well with a 3lb swing for him in the weights against the favourite.

Whether Charlie Appleby’s 6 year old can completely turn the tables on that rival from 5/1 is a different question* (odds recorded at 21:09 GMT on June 25th, 2021 at Ladbrokes).

THE LIR JET is going to be our long shot from 12/1* (odds recorded at 21:09 GMT on June 25th, 2021 at Ladbrokes).

He hasn’t been anywhere near his Norfolk Stakes form from 12 months ago. However, an ease in class may help.
