Today’s Horse Racing Tip

This is a good start to the bigger action at Newmarket on Saturday. This is a really competitive field for the Suffolk Stakes.

A close duel is expected between BRIGHT MELODY and BELL ROCK and they do look really hard to split.

We have to make a pick that is going to be on BELL ROCK at 4/1* (betting odds recorded 21:35 GMT on April 30th 2021 at Betfair).

We can look back to his form in the Cambridgeshire over course and distance, and Bell Rock took third place in that one.

Last summer he made his reappearance at Newmarket and scored so there is a lot to like about him here.

The other huge plus for Bell Rock is that he has a 5lb conditional on his back in William carver. That could help him take this.

The two stand out selections in this one are LAZUILI and CAME FROM THE DARK. The former is giving at least 3lb to the rest of the field.

So we are just a little more tempted by CAME FROM THE DARK at 5/1* (betting odds recorded 21:35 GMT on April 30th 2021 at Betfair).

He has looked like an improved animal since a wind op and gelding op.

After opening the season with a third place finish at Musselburgh, he improved again to take a score at Newbury on his latest run.

He took that win over GARRUS who is re-opposing today. Following a good season in the last campaign, there’s a lot to like about Came From The Dark.

Came From The Dark is 4lb worse off against Garrus on this occasion, but we think that this is enough in his improvement to handle that rival with the extra burden as well as the rest of the field. The manner of his win at Newbury was excellent.

Today’s Horse Racing Tip

This is a very interesting Group 2 fixture at Newmarket on Saturday, with each looking like they have a chance in it.

We are really torn between PYLEDRIVER and SIR RON PREIESTLEY as our horse racing tip. We are going with the latter at 2/1* (betting odds recorded 21:35 GMT on April 30th 2021 at Betfair).

That’s because he has had a recent run, so is match fit. That was 24 days ago, returning from a 19-month absence to score in a Listed fixture at Nottingham.

This is a shorter trip for Sir Ron Priestly.

In that victory at Nottingham he did get the better of Ocean Wind who was the runner up in the Sagaro Stakes.

He is also a three time winner at this 1m 4f distance as well and should be better for that return run.

Today’s Horse Racing Tip

Here we go then, the top race of the day and this looks like being a wide-open 2000 Guineas Stakes this year.

There has been a lot of hype about WEMBLEY coming into this one, but we are going to take a pass on him.

From the front runners, we think that THUNDER MOON is the way to go at 9/2* (betting odds recorded 21:35 GMT on April 30th 2021 at Betfair).

There were excuses there on his latest run, which was in the Dewhurst, a race won by Wembley.

But Thunder Moon was hampered there and forced to go on the attack earlier than what was ever ideal.

He did get the better of that rival in the National Stakes last December and on an even keel of a clear run, Thunder Moon has enough to take him down again.

There are a lot of others that we like in the field. VAN GOGH piques plenty of interest, although he looks better for the Derby.

He produced some excellent runs last season and absolutely tore up a top field in the Criterium at Saint-Cloud on his last run.

Van Gogh’s not out of this at 14/1* (betting odds recorded 21:35 GMT on April 30th 2021 at Betfair).

The other that we have for the shortlist LUCKY VEGA who we think is underestimated a bit.

There was a terrific effort from him to take second place in the Middle Park here at Newmarket on his last run as a juvenile.

We go to Class 2 next after the excitement of the 2000 Guineas. For this one we are pulling towards COUNT OTTO at 9/2* (betting odds recorded 21:35 GMT on April 30th 2021 at Betfair).

There have been three wins for him this season, all at Lingfield, so he looks as if he is going to be plenty competitive at Newmarket.

On his last run he was seen taking a win at course and distance here, just over two weeks ago. He got himself into the lead with a furlong to go and held very steady.

That was another excellent step forward in form from him, holding off CHIL CHIL by a neck in the fixture. S

o that rival has to be on the radar as well, with GREAT AMBASSADOR likely to be the other major player in the contest.

He opened the season with a win at Meydan and followed up with an improved performance to take second in a listed event here.

That was 18 days ago behind Highland Avenue and Secret Protector wasn’t disgraced there in the Feilden Stakes.

Coming into action on Saturday he has at least 8lb in hand over the rest of the field.
