The opening race of our preview, which is race 2 of Saturday’s card from newmarket, has KYPRIOS as the 13/8 favourite* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 21:47 GMT on Friday, 9th October 2020). This will be the second racetrack appearance for him.

But he landed a strong win on his debut which was a month ago at Galway. He looked to have plenty of running in him.

So the emphasis on stamina means that he should get close in this one. Trainer Aiden O’Brien has won two of the last three editions of this race as well.

He has won his last two runs, scoring at Goodwood and then Doncaster. He looks a good, battling hearty runner and he should comfortably have the 12f trip in him.

Another who is improving is FABILIS, having landed his last two runs as well. He made all the running on a nursery debut a couple of weeks ago over a mile distance.

He was never in any trouble in that and while he will have to find a little more here, place claims are certainly there.

The race favourite, and only narrowly at 7/2 is ONE RULER* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 21:47 GMT on Friday, 9th October 2020). He has looked solid so far across his three runs, getting off the mark at the second attempt.

One Ruler could thrive more on the step up to a 1m trip in this one. He came up a little short on his last effort, which was a 7f listed Doncaster race.

He claimed a third place finish there but couldn’t quite get up to speed. It is that extra bit of distance that will keep interest in him high.

LATEST GENERATION looks as if he could be a big player in this field. He was good on his debut, finishing behind One Ruler and Maximal at Sandown.

Notably Latest Generation wasn’t as match fit as either. But then he took a big step of progress to get off the mark in a Doncaster maiden in September.

VAN GOGH needs some respect as well in this field after coming close to a score in a Group 2 effort at the Champions Juvenile Stakes at Leopardstown.

That was a 1m contest. Van Gogh followed that up with a win at the Curragh over 7f in a maiden. He brings some good claims to the table with Ryan Moore booked.

It has been two wins from two races for him so far. After his debut he went up some major levels to score at the Curragh.

That was in the National Stakes and even though he found a bit of trouble in the race, he was balanced and composed enough to find another gear.

Therefore, following such a convincing victory he could be the one that sets the standard in this.

It doesnt paper to be the deepest of fields athare in play here. So we are backing Thunder Moon to get another score in another big race.

CHINDIT put in a really bright win at the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster. His form has been on point with three straight wins, and he will look to extend his unbeaten career.

That win at the Champagne Stakes came by a length over ALKMAIT and therefore, there has to be very strong place claims in play.

The other nomination for a place would have to be ALKUMAIT. Although he has been beaten by Chindit this season, he has seen off another of the rivals in this race.

He was ahead of Fivethousandtoone in the Mill Reef at Newbury. He’s another very exciting player in this field and warrants some respect up in Group 1 company.

He was last seen at the Galway Festival where he took part in the amateur rider’s handicap and took a credible enough seventh place there.

Further progress is expected from him, but in such a big field, it’s worth exploring a little deeper.

Looking like a good fit for the race here is LEONCAVALLO at 10/1* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 21:47 GMT on Friday, 9th October 2020). He opened the new season with second place in a novice chase effort at Stratford.

Then he switched straight back to the flat for a trip at Haydock and scored there with plenty in hand. He was head and shoulders above the rest of the field there.

NOT SO SLEEPY was a fourth place finish in last season’s renewal of this very fixture. He has to be respected as he comes back for another crack.

He got a win on his renewal as well, scoring in this sphere at Pontefract. Not So Sleepy was decent both over the flat and the hurdles last season, looking like a very good versatile horse.

One more pick from this field will have to be ROCK EAGLE. He scored a win at the venue, taking a win at the Old Rowley Cup a couple of years ago.

It has been two runs from him this season, but he has been solid with a second and a third place finish. He could find himself in the frame.

It was a fourth place finish from her there. Coming down in grade it is likely that she is going to be well in the frame to get the first win of the season.

LADY OF ARAN is also one to keep onside in this contest. She scored a recent course and distance success and the conditions may favour her as well.

The son of Frankel scored on his debut. Then on his reappearance he did the same with a score at Haydock in June over 10f.

Highest Ground then went straight to Dante and was only narrowly beaten there. Has all the claims in the world for this one and he is our pick.

POSTED had a nice positive run last time out. That was 24 days ago in a listed Sandown race.

She was ridden very well there and had plenty to spare at the finish, showing a great turn of speed.

This is going to be a tougher test for her though, but we feel that she needs to be kept on side.

DARAIN is another who could launch himself into the frame. After scoring on his debut he followed up with another in a novice event.

He then went into the Great Voltigeur and gave a good account of himself to take a fifth place finish. Darain is on the up and has the blinkers for the first time.
