Race Favourite

It’s a small field that we start with at Newmarket for this racing preview.

Leading the pack in the betting market is ASCENSION at 11/10* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 20:59 GMT on Tuesday, 7th April 2020).

He stays at the same mark as he was for his recent appearance. That happened in a Sandown handicap at a 7f distance.

It was a very good run that Ascension put together in that one and that brings him into big focus here.

As a juvenile he scored a couple of 6f novice efforts and that step up to handicapping action recently, really saw him shape up well for much more to come.

He was a beaten favourite in that, but there’s a decent chance of a score here for him to score as the FAV on this trip.

Tips

Let’s take a quick scan over the other runners. BUHTURI is bringing some good form to the table. He was second on his last run almost three weeks ago.

That was in a 6f Haydock handicap when he battled through a 4lb rise to take runner up. It was a much improved run after his juvenile campaign tailed off.

Another with good form is LEXINGTON DASH who could be the one to threaten Ascension the most. He didn’t score in either trip as a juvenile, but after taking second place on his first run as a 3 year old, he went better in scoring over course and distance just 8 days ago. This is his handicap debut.

MONOSKI rounds out the field and may have too much to find in this one. He really hasn’t found any form as a 3 year old yet. He finished at the back of the pack on his reappearance and then was second from last on his last trip which was at Newcastle. It’s going to be a big ask.

Race Favourite

This is The Empress Fillies’ Stakes and we get to take a look at some juveniles here. It is TIME SCALE who is heading up this field at 2/1* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 20:59 GMT on Tuesday, 7th April 2020) currently.

She scored on her debut earlier this month, with a 7f success at Chelmsford. She got stronger the longer the race went on and had plenty in the tank. So it is reasonable to assume that she is going to put a bold run down here.

Tips

KADUPUL also scored on her debut. She has a nice pedigree behind her too and looked very game in banging out a success at Yarmouth 18 days ago.

That was at the 6f distance so she has this in her. More improvement, just like the favourite Time Scale, is expected.

UNDERTAKE could be one to keep on side as well for this one. She took fourth at the Albany during Royal Ascot. That was a good battling run to take fourth place from a big field of 13.

So she brings solid claims to the table. That was her second racetrack appearance having scored on her debut over 6f at Lingfield.

CONCESSION who scored on her debut as well is one for the shortlist.

Race Favourite

This is a good-looking race and it is FIRST IN LINE who is the current favourite at 7/4* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 20:59 GMT on Tuesday, 7th April 2020).

On his reappearance he lined up in a similar race over course and distance in Listed company. That was 3 weeks ago.

He has serious claims here and is boosted with the booking of Frankie Dettori as well.

He delivered some good wins last autumn and looked to be coming on leaps and bounds in handicapping. One to watch.

Tips

One that is going to get a lot of backing is Sir Michael Stoute’s ALIGNAK. He has Ryan Moore booked so this is going to be some duel with the favourite. Alignak will be on the hunt for a hattrick score on Sunday.

He was last seen about a month ago when he won a twelve and a half furlong handicap. That was on the all weather at Newcastle.

He knows what this is all about as he goes in search of his first win on the turf after three misses at the start of his career.

Much like the other two, EL MISK is heading in the right direction when it comes to handicapping. Trained By John Gsoden, he isn’t likely to be far from the mx.

He had a good progressive 3 year old season anyway, singing off last autumn with a win. It’s a return to turf after a 242 day break. He has claims.

Race Favourite

It is DESERT ICON currently holding favouritism in the market at 7/2* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 20:59 GMT on Tuesday, 7th April 2020).

Earlier this month he was in action over course and distance and took a fourth place finish.

That was his reappearance so is likely to be even sharper for this contest. He has been lightly raced and looks to be the clear pick of the bunch in this field.

Desert Icon goes with cheek pieces for the first time and stays at the same mark. All positives for him.

Tips

WIAT FOREVER could be a contender for a place at least. This really isn’t a very good field. This is going to be the biggest test of stamina for him.

He took a mile trip three weeks ago at Newmarket and put in a pretty decent third place finish. Does he have more in him however over a longer trip?

The other that we would have to look at is DAL HORRISGLE. That’s not that there’s much form from him. He has been in Group 3 action in his last two runs, which were both back in August.

He took fifth place in each (in fields of nine and five). That came straight after a hattrick so he needs to rediscover his touch.

Race Favourite

For the last race of this Newmarket racing preview, we take in this Class 3 handicap.

Interestingly at the head of the field we have current joint-favourites to consider from a 3/1 quote* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 20:59 GMT on Tuesday, 7th April 2020).

SPEEDO BOY makes his reappearance here and gets a good booking with Ryan Moore in the saddle. So connections are probably expecting big things from him in this one.

His last race was last year’s Northumberland Plate where he didn’t make an impact.

But just before that he had secured a very good second place in a 14F Newmarket contest which does raise his claims.

Up there at the head of the market with him is CHARLIE D who has banked some good recent form.

He delivered a win at Southwell in late February on a 14f trip and then put another very solid effort in to take second at Wolverhampton over the distance.

He has been further with good performances as well. Whereas Speed Boy has been away for a year now, it’s only been a three month break for Charlie D, so he should be sharp.

Tips

Not to be counted out of the picture for this Newmarket contest is ISLAND BRAVE from 9/2* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 20:59 GMT on Tuesday, 7th April 2020).

About 12 months ago he scored at Ayr and is 2lb better off than he was for that run.

He benefits from a recent run as well after a trip at Newbury just over a couple of weeks ago.

He ran out of gas with a furlong to go in that contest, but throughout the contents in general he shaped up very well and it’ll be interesting to see any progression here from the 6 year old as he goes back up in trip.
