Inclyne and Starfighter battle for favouritism

As it stands currently there are 7/2 joint-favourites in INCLYNE and STARFIGHTER for this handicap* (betting odds taken from Betvictor at 19:25 GMT on Wednesday, June 3rd 2020).

4-year-old filly INCLYNE broke her maiden back in August last year on a Kempton run. She has followed up with a couple of very good efforts, not looking too far away from scoring once more.

She is off a workable mark at 78. That is the same as STARFIGHTER who does come back from a shorter break than Inclyne does. His most recent action was at Kempton as well where he took back to back third-place finishes.

He hasn’t been out of the top three in his last three efforts, looking good on the all-weather. Can he switch it over to the turf?

Pactolus could warrant some respect

9-year-old PACTOLUS could have some place claims in this contest. The bay gelding returns from a 103-day break where he was a big 100/1 shot in the Betway Winter Derby Stakes at Lincoln. Pactolus is 8/1 for this one* (betting odds taken from Betvictor at 19:25 GMT on Wednesday, June 3rd 2020).

He has generally knocked around in better company than this, so the drop in grade could help his chances. He is a steady runner, not the sharpest perhaps, but again he’s coming down a long way in grade, not having been at Class 3 since July last year.

Esprit De Baileys worth an outside look?

8-year-old gelding total bombed out on a March effort at Stratford. That was after a long 450-day break, however. At the back end of 2018, he was in brilliant form including scoring a win at Doncaster.

That Stratford outing should have at leat sharpened him up a little bit and he did go off a higher mark of 125. On his last flat run at Yarmouth, he was second of 12 and a return to that kind of form can pique interset from 12/1 as an e/w option* (betting odds taken from Betvictor at 19:25 GMT on Wednesday, June 3rd 2020).

Givinitsum brings some good turf form

A return from a shorter 89-day break may play into the hands of GIVINITSUM. He was third of eight in that particular run at Wolverhampton.

Pushing all the way to actually claim the win by just be beyond him at this point, and he is looking for his first score since July 2018. But at 9/1 he isn’t without some fair claims* (betting odds taken from Betvictor at 19:25 GMT on Wednesday, June 3rd 2020).

Predictions & Tips

This is a wide-open contest and there isn’t a great deal of form around that many are bringing to the table. So this should be an exciting closer for the day from Newmarket.

STARFIGHTER is going to be the one that just gets the nod for this favourite, a relatively straight forward pick from the head of the field. The consistency is there, and generally runs well and was sharp on all-weather earlier this year.

We wouldn’t be too afraid to have a look at PACTOLUS from longer odds. He is looking for his first score at Newmarket in what will be his sixth visit but has placed here before and this level of contest looks a good fit for him.
