Newport v Leicester Preview
This will be the first time that Newport will have played host to Leicester and this is a great fixture for the Welsh club. The Exiles aren’t in the greatest of form at the moment as they are winless in four games. They have only managed to get the one win in their last seven games actually. They got to the third round of after seeing off fellow Welsh side Wrexham in a second-round replay.
That was after they had eased to a 2-0 win at non-league Met Police. Their form at home this season is pretty good it is worth noting. At Rodney Parade, Newport have suffered the one defeat in their last nine played. They have bagged a clean sheet in four of their last six on home soil as well have the Exiles.
Leicester have won three of their last four games (L1), the wins in that sequence being against Chelsea, Man City and then away at Everton on New Year’s Day. So it’s not been all that bad at all from them. The one defeat that they took in that sequence was something of a poor loss out at Cardiff. It’s now back to Wales in the FA Cup for them.
But the Foxes have won their last two on the road and are W3 D2 L1 in their last six on the road. Each of the last three away wins that Leicester have taken have been by a 1-0 scoreline. None of their last six away games have gone over 2.5 goals. They haven’t been their usual prolific selves in front of goal so the scoreline may be kept down in this one. Last season the Foxes made it through to the quarterfinals. They have a favourable draw to at least get this season’s campaign up and running well.
