Next Doctor who betting market thrown wide open

Punters still backing a female Doctor Who next up

Novelty Betting & Other Events Betting

Peter Capaldi will be on the way out of his role as Doctor Who and since 1963 there has been a rotating door of actors filling in the role. It is hard to get any kind of grasp on who the next Doctor Who is going to be though because time after time a potential candidate has risen to the forefront only to rapidly fall away again.

Hype comes and hype goes. The current trend in the next Doctor Who betting market though is for a shock appointment as punters seem to be leaning heavily on a piece of history being created with a woman stepping into the role for the first time. Up on Twitter earlier this month, it was announced that current favourite Phoebe Waller-Bridge is not going to be the next Dr Who. A recent Newsnight segment has hinted that it was going to be her and that led punters flocking to back her at Ladbrokes.

So much so that she took 61% of all bets on the market during the following week, even though the actress never actually said that she was going to be the Time Lord, and it was confirmed by Fleabag stage director Vicky Jones that Waller-Bridge wasn’t taking over the role. However, here’s the thing, despite the denials, it hasn’t stopped money going down on Waller-Bridge and she is still there at the head of the market as the favourite at 9/4 with Ladbrokes.

Kris Marshall has been a strong contender for punters for a while, but he has been on the drift a little bit to 7/4 with Ladbrokes after being as short as 1/2 at one point. He has quit his role in Death in Paradise and that saw his odds fall, but they have gone back the other way. There is one more angle to all of this and that is the clear distancing from the role that Phoebe Waller-Bridge is going through at the moment.

Which should lead punters back around to Tilda Swinton because there has been some murmuring about her being connected with the show and if the role is going to finally go to a woman, and it’s not going to be Waller-Bridge, then you can be assured that Swinton’s name is going to get thrown around more and more and her price will tumble, it has already started to do so.
