Well, Watford couldn’t wait until the end of the season to get Nigel Pearson out of the door.

The Hornets will face a big fight for Premier League survival on Sunday. They will start the weekend in the bottom three on goal difference.

They will do that without a permanent boss in place.

Watford’s survival fight

Watford looked to be doing themselves a huge favour with back to back home wins against Norwich and Newcastle.

But then they missed the boat in a big upset away at West Ham who at the time were also in danger of getting the drop.

A heavy loss on Tuesday against Manchester City followed. So Watford will wait to see what destiny has in store for them as they meet Arsenal on Sunday.

They need to better whatever it is that Aston Villa do on the final day, to get themselves safe.

Next Watford Manager odds sees Puel as the 9/4 FAV

Claude Puel is the 9/4 current favourite with William Hill to take over from Pearson at Vicarage Road* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 00:34 GMT on Wednesday 22nd July 2020).

This isn’t going to be anything decided before the close of the season.

Getting the man they want could all depend on whether or not Watford are playing in the top flight or the Championship next season.

But it is former Southampton boss Puel who is the current market leader by some distance as well.

Cowley and Hughton in the frame?

Former Huddersfield boss Danny Cowley, who was just given the boot by the Terriers after all but securing their Championship status with a game to spare, seems to be a popular early pick in Next Watford Manager betting.

Cowley is a current 7/1 option to get the role. That would probably be more likely if Watford ends up in the second tier next season* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 00:34 GMT on Wednesday 22nd July 2020).

Former Brighton boss Chris Hughton is there as well at a current 8/1 quote in the next Watford manager betting market.

Sam Allardyce is priced just a little longer in the next Watford manager odds market* (betting odds taken from William Hill at 00:34 GMT on Wednesday 22nd July 2020).

Lamouchi being well-supported in Next Watford Manager odds

But former French midfielder Sabri Lamouchi has had his odds slashed into 4/1 with William Hill to take over at Watford.

The current Nottingham Forest boss has guided Forest to a likely playoff spot in the second tier, with one game left of the regular season to play.

One would imagine that if he gets them up to the top flight, then Lamouchi is going to be a lot harder to pry away from his position.
