Nigeria v Uruguay Betting Preview
An interesting situation for both of these nations as they head into their second group match. Uruguay were outplayed by Spain in their opening match and so need to dig deep for a win. Nigeria opened with the easiest of their matches, a thumping 6-1 win over the amateurs Tahiti. This will be a massive step up in quality opposition for them so this will be their real first test of the tournament.

Nigeria v Uruguay Recommended Bet:
It is hard to gauge where Nigeria are really at here. They pretty much sent a youth side out to Brazil for the 2013 Confederations Cup. That was more than enough for their opening game against Tahiti, a fully expected victory. The 6-1 win that they did achieve (conceding an own goal) could have been a lot bigger if they had been sharper in front of goal. They are unlikley to get anywhere near as many chances, and anywhere near as generous defensive deficiencies to go up against when they face Uruguay. Nigeria earned their spot at the Confederations Cup by winning the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, somewhat against the odds. This is the same quality of side which won that. The tests in this tournament are only going to get tougher, with Spain to come after Uruguay.

So despite their confident start, are the young Nigerian side ready to take on the challenges of Uruguay? The South Americans have still been tipped by many as dark horses for the Confederations Cup, despite poor form. They just haven’t been the same since winning the 2011 Copa America, with the youth in their set up not living up to expectation and their usual counter attacking tactics not reaping the rewards that it was. That being said, they have an enviable front line of Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani to call upon. It was Suarez who curled a beautiful free kick into the Spanish net in their first game, but it was too little too late, losing 2-1 and the scoreline not reflecting the big gap in quality between the two nations.

La Celeste should really be targeting this game for a win, and in doing so, knowing that they only have to play Tahiti, would likely put themselves through to the knockout stage. They struggled to keep up with a beautifully fluid Spanish side, but will get more possession and more chances in front of goal against Nigeria. The Nigerians are inexperienced and this is a quality Uruguayan side, if only they can rally themselves together tactically. Still, it should be a win for the South Americans and will be worth going for either Luis Suarez or Edinson Cavani as First Goalscorer for around the 4/1 mark with online betting site Unibet.

This will be the first ever meeting between the two nations.
