Northampton v Gloucester Preview

Northampton have only won one of their last three Premiership games, but that lone win in that sequence did come in their most recent game, which was against Leicester. The Saints are such a good home side though as they have lost just once at home across all collections since back in December. That loss was a two-point defeat at the hands of Bristol.

So they are no easy side to beat at Franklin Gardens. Outside of the top two, Northampton are the highest scorers in the division. They go into the game trailing Gloucester by nine points in the table. In their last five games in all competitions, the Saints have gone W2 L3. Along with the aforementioned win over Leicester, the other win in that sequence was in the Premiership Rugby Cup Final over Saracens.

The Saints have won their last two home games against Gloucester in the league, both by a three-point margin. Northampton are W3 L2 in their last five against the Cherry and Whites. Gloucester have only suffered the one defeat in their last five league games, which was out at Bristol in early March. They have beaten both of the top two of Exeter and Saracens this season.

They go to Franklin Gardens with back to back wins behind them in all competitions. The last time they won three in a row was in December 2017, so it has been a while. Out on their travels in this season’s top flight they have taken three wins, the most recent of which was in a big battle out at Harlequins. The only two wins that they have taken over Northampton since 2013 have both been at Kingsholm.

Northampton v Gloucester Prediction

Northampton should be able to defend home territory in this one against a good Gloucester side. It is probably going to be a tight game though and the Saints can cover a -2 handicap at 10/11 odds* (betting odds taken from bet365 on April 4th, 2019 at 11:01 pm)
