Norway Women News and Form – Grasshoppers to hop home?

Norway took on hosts France, Nigeria and South Korea in their group, following the French through to the Round of 16. Martin Sjogren’s ladies finished on six points, scoring six and conceding three along the way.

Norway kicked off the tournament with a convincing 3-0 win over Nigeria at the Stade Auguste-Delaune in Reims. An own goal and strikes by Guro Reiten and Lisa-Marie Utland did the business.

Norway were then beaten 2-1 by the hosts in Nice before sealing their passage through to the last 16 with a 2-1 victory over South Korea on the final day, with penalties from Carolina Hansen and Isabell Herlovsen proving to be the difference.

In the Round of 16, Norway edged a tight and tense encounter against Australia. After a 1-1 draw after extra time, the Norwegians won 4-1 on penalties in Nice to go through. The Grasshoppers have done extremely well to get this far, but can they get the better of England to reach the last four?

England Women News and Form – Lionesses to roar into the last four?

For the first time in history, England won all of their World Cup group games to go through to the Round of 16 on nine points from a possible nine.

England kicked off their campaign with a narrow 2-1 victory over Scotland in Nice, as goals from Nikita Parris and Ellen White gave them a commanding half-time lead. Despite taking their foot off the gas in the second period, the Lionesses held on for a 2-1 win.

Neville’s girls then edged past Argentina in Le Havre. It was far from a classic, but Jodie Taylor’s 62nd-minute goal was enough. England were much better in their final Group D match, as they beat Japan 2-0 thanks to two smart White strikes.

England have grown into this tournament game by game, and their result and performance against Cameroon in the Round of 16 proves that they mean business in France. In a tough game in Valenciennes, the Lionesses claimed a comfortable 3-0 win in the end, with Stephanie Houghton, White and Alex Greenwood on the scoresheet.

The English ladies are certainly going places under Neville, but the bookies have them priced at 8/1 to win the 2019 World Cup, with the likes of USA, France and Germany fancied ahead of them. Still, can they reach the last four by seeing off a talented Norwegian outfit on Thursday night?

Norway Women v England Women Predictions

England win: With both teams in good shape, this promises to be an intriguing game of World Cup knockout football. Each side is capable of winning it, but I can see England edging a tight affair in Le Havre. Back the Lionesses to win at evens. Meanwhile, put some money on England to win and both teams to score at 10/3.
