Norwich News and Form – Can Canaries sing at Carrow Road?

The Canaries will write off their opening game of the season. They were out at Liverpool and it was always going to be so tough for them to get anything out of the contest. But still, they did come away with some pride intact, despite a 4-1 defeat. That’s because they produced some wonderful fluent and open football themselves. Their defence couldn’t handle the power of Liverpool, but then not many can. Norwich did win the second half 1-0 so boss Daniel Farke can take a lot away from that.

11/4

They were thoroughly entertaining at Carrow Road last season in the Championship, were Norwich. It was good stuff from them at home and they will hope for that to continue up in the top flight. The Canaries went W15 D4 L4 on home soil in the Championship last season and they didn’t lose a single league game at Carrow Road in 2019. They are going to look to Teemu Pukki heavily for goals this season after being so prolific for them in the second tier. He got their goal at Anfield. Pukki is the 5/1 first goalscorer favourite* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on August 14th, 2019 at 6:12 p.m.).

  • The Magpies lost 1-0 at home against Arsenal last weekend

Newcastle News and Form – Will Magpies continue to struggle?

Newcastle went down 1-0 at home against Arsenal in their first game of the new campaign. Not an ideal start for new boss Steve Bruce. There was never any real pressure initiated by Newcastle though and it was a bit of a tame defeat. After they had fallen behind in the second half, they never looked like getting an equaliser. It was a bit confusing as to what they were trying to do tactically. Now they are going to be feeling even more pressure as they head out on the road.

Newcastle did not have a great time of things on the road last season in the top flight. They posted just a W4 D8 L7 record on their travels, averaging less than a goal per road game. To try and solve their lack of goal scoring threat they have broken the club transfer record to get Joelinton who, on the evidence of his performance against Arsenal badly needs a goal. Those nerves need to be settled as he was wasteful with the scraps that he had. Only 37% of Newcastle’s away games last season went over the 2.5 goals and that was because the Magpies were not all that bad at the back.

Norwich v Newcastle Predictions

Norwich to win: Norwich look as if they have come to the Premier League to play some very attractive and positive football. It didn’t work out for them at Anfield but then not many visiting clubs will get any change out of Liverpool there. At home, Norwich should have the quality to beat the Newcastle side who looked a bit clueless in their opening game of the new season. Home win.
