After dropping a set in his opening two matches of the US Open 2018 campaign, Djokovic has started to step on the gas a little harder it would seem. He breezed past Richard Gasquet in straight sets in the third round and did the same to Portugal’s Joao Sousa in the fourth round. With Federer having crashed out of the event then it leaves Djokovic as the 5/4 favourite in the outright winner market* (betting odds taken on September 4th, 2018 at 9:41 pm).

So he is back in form and beating the heat as well in New York. He is on the hunt for his third US Open title to add to the nose he won in 2011 and in 2015. He has been to the final in six of the last seven appearances that he has put in at the Grand Slam. He has met his Australian opponent John Millman just once before and that was this year. It was a 6-2 6-1 win that Djokovic produce at Queens.

Millman ranked 55th in the world scored the biggest win of his career in taking down the great Roger Federer in the fourth round. The Australian wasn’t given much of a chance prior to the match really and having lost the first set against the Swiss master, not many would have predicted the fightback and outcome that Millman produced to take the match in four sets. He is 3/2 odds to win a set in this match* (betting odds taken on September 4th, 2018 at 11:20 pm).

After winning his opening match of the tournament in straight sets, Millman has gone to four sets in each of his following matches. Federer isn’t the only seed that he has taken out at Flushing Meadows this year either as he beat Italy’s Fabio Fognini in the second round, who was the 14th seed. The victory over Federer is his only career win against a top-ten ranked player while this is the first time he has been passed the third round in any Grand Slam tournament.

It is unlikely that such a massive underdog is going to pull off back to back shocks of considerable magnitude. Djokovic will handle the conditions and we can see him getting the job done in straight sets. Djokovic 3-0 in set betting is at 4/9 odds* (betting odds taken on September 4th, 2018 at 11:20 pm)
