Oprah Winfrey delivered a power punch of a speech at the Golden Globes on Sunday evening from the Beverly Hilton and that, of course, sparked a flurry of betting on her becoming the most powerful woman in America. In her speech at the awards show, she addressed current issues like sexism, Rosa Parks and Recy Taylor.

It was an eloquent, powerful speech that could easily be associated with an acting President of the United States. Yes, with so much praise coming in for Oprah, social media kicked into gear following her speech to talk up her presidential prospects and punters weren’t far behind.

The talk show host hasn’t really said anything either way about potentially running for the White House in 2020 recently, but last summer she denounced any talk of it happening. However, when she tweeted a New York Post column with the headline, “Democrats’ best hope for 2020: Oprah” it triggered a belief that maybe she had changed her mind.

Everybody loves Oprah and her odds to take over from incumbent Donald Trump in 2020 have been cut from 50/1 to 14/1 with Paddy Power* (Betting Odds taken January 9th, 00:03 am) and that is just since Sunday night.

That’s some hefty movement in the market and it tallies up to a 7% chance of her taking hold of the White House in a couple of years, up from a 2% chance. It leaves her as the fifth favourite at Paddy Power to be the next President of the United States.

It was reported that a massive 82% of bets have been on Oprah Winfrey being named the President in 2020 and that has been substantially more than any other potential candidate has received in the market. The second most backed has been Kirsten Gillibrand, who is surprisingly closely followed by George Clooney.
