Oscars betting 2021 will be in focus over the weekend as the famous awards ceremony will get its annual outing.

The 93rd Academy Awards will be hosted across two different venues this year, both the Dolby Theatre and the Union Station in Los Angeles.

The awards were delayed for a couple of months, because of the impact that the last year or so has had on cinema. But it’s all hands to the pump with Oscars betting for 2021 on the weekend.

Why was the ceremony postponed?

The original Oscars ceremony for 2021 was scheduled for February 28th, 2021. But in a move to increase the eligibility period for nominations, the Academy pushed back the date a couple of months.

Because the film industry has slowed down dramatically over the last 18 months, eligibility was changed as well.

Movies that had scheduled release dates in movie theatres, but were released straight to streaming services instead, are all in play.

The nominations were announced on March 15th, two weeks after the deadline of the eligibility period for movies.

It looks like Nomadland @ 1/6 is going to take all the beating in the big category this year* (odds recorded 23:02 GMT on April 20th, 2021)

There is a fair share of true stories and the theme of  marginalised people in the USA in this year’s Oscars.

Nomadland has taken the top spot at the Golden Globes, the BAFTAs and other awards already. Despite being a comparative budget movie, the character study feature looks a lock.

David Fincher (Mank) 9/1
Lee Isaach Chung (Minari) 20/1
Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman) 20/1

Bet at Bet365

Well, there is a bit of history being made in this category for 2021 Oscars betting. More than one female director has made it to the nominations list for the first time.

One of them, Chloe Zhao looks the one most likely to walk away with the top prize. S

he directed Best Picture favourite Nomadland. Zhao should also have had Marvel movie Eternals out, but that was delayed.

Still, walking away with the title will be a nice consolation. Emerald Fennel, star of The Crown, both wrote and directed Promising Young Woman to great acclaim.

She potentially looks like the one who could cause an upset from 20/1* (odds recorded 23:02 GMT on April 20th, 2021)

The late Chadwick Boseman produced some stellar work for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, as well as Da 5 Bloods in 2020.

The market odds for Best Actor in Oscars betting is hinting that he could be

Riz Ahmed is in the running after being the first Muslim nominated in the category, which Steven Yeun is the first Asian American.

Bet at Bet365

This at least looks like being a more competitive market for Oscars betting 2021. Carey Mulligan is the current 5/4 favourite for her role in Promising Young Woman in which she fights back against abuse.

But there were very strong performances as well for Viola Davis in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and Andrea Day in The United States v Billie Holliday, both depicting music legends.

Then there is Frances McDormand who can’t be dismissed easily for her starring role in Nomadland.

Bet at Bet365

This is a really strong category this year, and it is Promising Young Women which is the current 1/4 odds-on favourite.* (odds recorded 23:02 GMT on April 20th, 2021).

It is a timely movie and extremely strong. It could have the edge over The Trial of the Chicago 7 and Judas and the Black Messiah who cover similar historic ground.

Will the Academy look over the permeating anger in those for Minari of Sound of Metal?

Best Animated Feature Film – Oscars Betting Odds

Soul (Pixar) @ 1/25
Wolfwalkers (Apple TV Plus/GKids) @ 8/1
Over the Moon (Netflix) @ 28/1
Onward (Pixar) @ 28/1
A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon (Netflix) @ 33/1
* (odds recorded 23:02 GMT on April 20th, 2021)

Bet at Bet365

It may be hard to knock Pixar off their perch in this one. Soul is pretty much dominating the Best Animated Feature Film category at the Oscars.

There is a nomination on the list for Apple TV with Wolfwalkers and Netflix hit the list with a couple of entries. But Soul looks like another lock for the night.
