Just ahead of the weekend, a punter at Paddy Power deposited £10 into her account, with an eye on the final weekend of the Premier League season. After having made her bet, she decided that the £5 that was left in the account should go to a horse racing bet.

While the football wager didn’t return anything, the horse racing one most certainly did. The woman, from Northern Ireland, put down an each way fivefold on the horses. It turned into over £50k in winnings.

While Sunday saw a lot of upsets in the world of racing, the 25-year-old lady, placed her £2.50 EW fivefold bet (total stake £5) at 8.50am on Friday, May 10th and by 3 pm, she had pocketed a £53, 228.12 after backing winners at Market Rasen, Chester and Ascot.

The horses which had been backed were Sha La La La Lee (13.50, Chester), Final Song (14.00, Ascot), Forest Ranger (14.25, Chester), Kesia (14.35 Ascot) and the aptly named Safe Home (14.45, Market Rasen) who made sure the bet struck gold to the tune of £53,000.

The lucky punter admitted that horse racing wasn’t her thing “I wouldn’t know one end of a horse to the other, but I knew Ascot was on so I went from there and literally just picked the names of horses I was drawn to,” she explained last night.

“I didn’t know a thing until I went online this evening to see how they ran and saw my balance. I thought there had been a mistake so I logged out and logged back into my Paddy Power account again and saw it still there. I couldn’t believe it! I rang my Daddy. He couldn’t believe it either!” she laughed.
