Paris Saint-Germain News and Form – Will the Parisians once again be the unstoppable force in France?

Paris were yet again the real deal in French football last term. The Parisians won 29, drew four and lost five of their 38 league matches, finishing up with a whopping 91 points. PSG scored goals for fun under Thomas Tuchel, netting 105 and conceding 35.

Paris had one or two problems on the road, but they were unstoppable at the Parc des Princes, winning 17 and drawing two. However, both of those draws came late on in the season as PSG somewhat stumbled over the finishing line. Meanwhile, Paris lost five times away from home, crashing to defeats at Lyon, Lille, Nantes, Montpellier and Reims.

 

 

Although they went on to win the league by a huge 16 points, Tuchel’s men lost four of their last nine, winning just three league games from March. Can the likes of Lyon, Marseille and Lille cause Paris problems this season?

Tuchel has been a busy man this summer, with Abdou Diallo, Idrissa Gueye and Pablo Sarabia coming in for a combined fee of around £72m. Meanwhile, Marcin Bulka, Ander Herrera and Mitchel Bakker have arrived on free transfers. In the other direction, Adrien Rabiot, Dani Alves and Kevin Trapp – among others – have moved on.

Paris Saint-Germain have already added a trophy to their glittering cabinet this season, as goals from Kylian Mbappe and Angel Di Maria were enough to give PSG a 2-1 victory over Rennes in the Trophee des Champions in China last week.

PSG are expected to dominate French football yet again this year. The Red and Blues will want to retain their league title and go far in this season’s UEFA Champions League.

Nimes had an excellent season in France’s top tier last time, finishing in a respectable ninth place. Blaquart’s boys picked up 15 wins, suffered 15 losses and drew eight times. Considering that they were promoted from Ligue 2 in the 2017-18 season, Nimes had a fine first year in the top flight after a long absence.

The Crocodiles were pretty strong at the Stade des Costieres, accumulating 32 Ligue 1 points. However, Nimes were beaten ten times away from home, though they also secured a decent six wins on the road.

Survival will once again be number one priority for Blaquart and the Nimes faithful this season, but can the club push for another top-half finish?
