Pats backed into favourite for the title

It is one of the biggest single sporting events in the world. On February 3rd it will be all eyes on Atlanta when the New England Patriots take on the Los Angeles Rams in the Super Bowl. The early betting markets for the match have now settled down after the drama of Sunday’s Championship matches in the AFC and NFC.

It was the Rams who opened the early Super Bowl LIII betting as the slight favourites, but things have changed this week as the Rams are now 6/5 odds underdogs heading into the match (betting odds taken from bet365 on January 24th, 2019 at 4:46 pm). The Rams were the first to book their place in the final as they edged the New Orleans Saints with a 26-23 overtime win.

This is the fourth time that the Rams have made it to the Super Bowl. But it is the Patriots who have overtaken them in the betting for the big NFL finale. The Patriots were actually the favourites to win the Super Bowl right back at the start of the season, while the Rams had been strongly behind them.

The Patriots are 5/7 odds-on favourites to win the match* (betting odds taken from bet365 on January 24th, 2019 at 4:46 pm).

The Pats are in their ninth Super Bowl in the last eighteen seasons, which is pretty remarkable. They are in their third straight Super Bowl match as well now, only the third franchise in the history of the sport to have achieved that. The Patriots also needed overtime to win their Championship match in the AFC, getting a 37-31 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.
