Manchester City have been rocked by a two-season ban from UEFA club competition. The suspension is set to kick in at the start of next season. This is because of some apparent breaches of the Financial Fair Play Rules.

The Citizens are, more than likely, going to take the ruling to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in the hope of getting the ban overturned.

It was a massive bombshell for the reigning Premier League champions and it now raises some fascinating options in Manchester City betting options.

Will Pep take a step out of the Etihad’s door?

Pep Guardiola’s future at Manchester City has already been up for discussion recently. The Spaniard has stated that his intentions were to stick and see his contract with City, which runs until 2021, through to its conclusion.

Does the ban change things, however?

Manchester City were domestic treble winners last season. Guardiola has, time and time again throughout the course of the investigations and rumours, shown a lot of faith in the Manchester City hierarchy who continuously said that they have done no wrong.

Ban to create a wedge between manager and hierarchy?

So will this news drive a wedge between manager and club? Will Pep trust those above him at the club any more?

Punters were active on Friday evening, with Guardiola cutting cut to as short at 8/1 with BetVictor in the Next Premier League Manager To Go Market* (betting odds taken from BetVictor on February 15th 2020 at 03:36).

Other bookies had Pep out at 16/1 but still having been trimmed.

Will any EPL changes happen?

Things are at the point of the season now where managerial changes become less and less likely. Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is back at the head of the market but it’s improbable to think any club chasing a European spot will change boss in mid-February.

If City can’t get their ban overturned and UEFA open up 5th place in the Premier League for a Champions League spot, then that could spark Manchester United back into life.

It would certainly make things interesting with a clutch of teams scrapping it out at the moment in a tight battle to make some ground up on the current top four of Liverpool, Man City, Leicester and Chelsea.

Hodgson the tip to go next?

It is Crystal Palace’s Roy Hodgson who has been taking the most heat recently, however. The Eagles have sunk to a three-match losing streak and who haven’t won any of their last seven league games.

The Eagles have won only one league outing since December 7th 2019. With the teams beneath them looking as if they are all ready to stand pat at this stage of the campaign, the former England boss could be an interesting candidate in the market at 7/2 odds* (betting odds taken from BetVictor on February 15th 2020 at 03:36).

The most interesting scenario of all, of course, is if no Premier League manager goes this season which is at 4/1 with Betfair* (betting odds taken from Betfair on February 15th 2020 at 04:12). Which of the clubs would make the first move at the end of the season? Or perhaps more pertinently, which current manager would be the first to make their move?
