Manchester City didn’t have a very good Valentine’s Day. They weren’t dealt any love as they were handed a two-season ban from UEFA club competition. The reasons were cited as being “serious breaches” of licensing and financial fair play regulations.

What will Pep do after City?

The ban has immediately raised questions about what current Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is going to do next. He has a contract with the club through 2021, but will he jump ship if City can’t overturn the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport?

Regardless of that, at some point, Pep Guardiola won’t be at Manchester City. Whenever it happens, what will his next job be?

Italy the next destination?

There have been some persistent rumours flying around that Juventus are extremely interested in him, especially with the Old Lady having gone off the boil a bit under Maurizio Sarri. Juventus are even money to be Pep’s next club* (betting odds taken from Paddy Power on February 15th 2020 at 03:40)

Guardiola has had his success in Spain with Barcelona, in Germany with Bayern Munich and in England with Manchester City. So it would be somewhat of a natural progression that if he was looking for a new challenge, he would end up in Italy. If that’s the destination then it would be, more likely than not at Juventus. Especially with the Champions League in mind.

All of Europe on alert

Basically all of Europe’s top clubs would be falling over themselves to get him. Would Guardiola be tempted back to Barcelona? One would have to wonder if Bayern Munich would be keen to have him back?

Would PSG jump at the chance to try and get him to try and bolster their Champions League ambitions as well as trying to hold on to Neymar at the same time?

PSG are 6/1 to be Pep’s next destination* (betting odds taken from Paddy Power on February 15th 2020 at 03:40).

It is not only the lure of Pep Guardiola himself that clubs like Juventus and PSG would be attracted to. Guardiola would like to bolster the chances of any club attracting top players.

Or in PSG’s case, keeping some. Perhaps he could even pull in some of the current Manchester City side to wherever he goes next.

There is likely to be some very interesting developments ahead.
