The finale of the 2011 WTA Tennis Championships out in Istanbul Turkey serves up a treat on Sunday. It has been a fantastic week of indoor tennis to see who is crowned the end of year champion. Not only is it a matter of who wins this end of season showcase, but also who finishes the year second and third in the World Rankings. This is a great conclusion to the WTA season and fortunately we have seen the two best form players reach the final, as we take a look at Victoria Azarenka v Petra Kvitova. Wimbledon Champion Petra Kvitova topped her group, seeing off Caroline Wozniacki, Vera Zvonareva and Agnieszka Radwanska. The young Czech leftie has come back into form just at the right time for this, and it was her impressive opener against Caroline Wozniacki which really set the tone for her great run, and she is the only player to remain unbeaten in the tournament. There were good signs that Kvitova, who has been very quiet since her Wimbledon triumph, was going to peak for this, and she is back to her powerful best, of punishing ground strokes and some excellent serving variety. Kvitova squared off against Sam Stosur in the semi finals. After going a set behind, Kvitova finally stepped up the gear and blitzed through the next two sets to move ahead to a deserved place in the final. As for Azarenka, she beat Li Na and Sam Stosur comfortably in her group, but the big clash against Maria Sharapova never emerged, as the Russian retired from the tournament. That meant that Azarenka had to face alternate player Marion Bartoli in her third and final match, which had no bearing because Azarenka had already qualified. Anyway, she lost the match against the fresh and rested Bartoli, but bounced back with an aggressive display against Vera Zvonareva in the semi finals. The tall Belarusian has really been the pick of the tournament, showing a great deal of maturity and strength in her play. No doubt she deserves her place in the final alongside Kvitova, because they have been easily the best two players of the eight that started the tournament. If you had to try and split hairs and pick the best, then all round, it is Azarenka who has played the better tennis, but Kvitova came through a much tougher group than Azarenka did. Kvitova also has a fantastic indoor record this season.

So, only one place to go with this and that is looking at the head to head for our Victoria Azarenka v Petra Kvitova betting. It is Kvitova who actually has the edge in the head to head with a 3-2 lead, so let’s look at that a little deeper. The two have met twice this year, with Kvitova getting the best of both of those meetings. Kvitova won the final of Madrid against Azarenka this year, and then knocked her out of the Wimbledon semi final. Interesting though, that two of Kvitova’s three wins have been on grass, where Kvitova is naturally strong. Azarenka won their only meeting on hard court, but if you are looking for an edge, Kvitova is the better indoor player of the two. The overall match records for these two stood at 52/15 for Azarenka with three titles and 53/13 for Kvitova with five titles at the start of the tournament. These two really are evenly matched.
