PGA Tour Sony Open Golf Betting Info
Hawaii remains the setting for the early season in the PGA, however, with the delays at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions because of inclement weather, there is almost going to be a straight run onto this event at the Waialae Country Cup. This is a par 70 course going at just over 7,000 yards and there is 500 FedExCup points on offer for the winner.

PGA Tour Sony Open Golf Betting Defending Champion
Johnson Wagner came through a competitive pack here last season. The American had started the final round two shots back and during the final round there was a total of eleven players all within one shot of a lead. Wagner though was just solid all weekend and it was the run he strung together over the final twelve holes, going bogey free for a round of 67 that edged him to the title. He didn’t shoot anything worse than a 68 in any round at the event and therefore will be a great fit again for this year to try and defend his title. Had a decent enough warm up at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions without really threatening. Johnson Wagner is trading at decent value of a 60/1 longshot at online bookmaker Bet365.

PGA Tour Sony Open Golf Betting Favourite
Dustin Johnson continues to be the man of the moment and it really could be shaping up for a big season from him. Although he had a shortened season in 2012 after missing a couple of months with a back injury, that didn’t stop him coming back, winning a title and securing four top ten finishes in the FedExCup Playoffs. Remarkable form from DJ whose driving off the tee sets him up wonderfully. His all round game is so solid and with confidence rolling over from a strong performance in the weather-shortened Hyundai Tournament of Champions, is going to be strong favourite. Don’t worry about him just finishing one tournament and going straight into another, he has the real potential to go big. Last played here back in 2010 when he landed a T16, will finish way higher than that. Dustin Johnson is trading at 10/1 favourite with online bookmaker Bet365.

Other Contenders
Hard to take a read on some guys so early in the season. Webb Simpson is riding strongly in the outright winner market for your golf betting, despite not going well here last season. He opened with a cracking round of 66 and then fell away in the middle to land just a T38. With a T46 the year before that and a T77 at the event back in 2010, there at least has been some improvement from him at the Sony Open in Hawaii. Looked a bit rusty at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, so may be worth waiting till the season gets going to get fully behind him.

Matt Kuchar is going to be a better fit with his consistency. He also landed a top five finish at the Sony Open in Hawaii too last season with a stand out first round of 65. That was a big improvement for him as he had missed the cut in his two outings at the event prior to that. But last year’s performance is better measure of him. Didn’t make an impact at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in its shortened format, he is far more suited to the longer slogs and is well worth considering here for your golf betting, even a top ten finish at worst.

Sweden’s Carl Petterson took a share of runners up spot here last season. The powerful Swede put on a great show, and like Kuchar had missed the cut at the event in 2011. He also did land a T5 at the Sony Open in 2010 and so could be worth a shout here. He enjoyed a solid run at the Tournament of Champions this week and should be in good shape to make a run at the title in Hawaii over the weekend. Wouldn’t count him out and a great bet for a top ten finish.

Best Outside Bet
Not that he’s really an outsider so much when you look at his tournament history, but is has to be Charles Howell III here. The American has finished runner up in the past two years at Waialae, coming home second at Sony Open three times. Just to pile more good form on top of that he has five other top five finishes besides those runners up. So superb form without ever having gotten over the line. At the value he is at 25/1 with online bookmaker Bet365, could just be worth an optimistic punt.
