Platini even money for top FIFA job after Presidency bid announcement

Platini favourite for FIFA job

Football News

Well the official announcement that UEFA President Michel Platini will be standing in the FIFA elections has now been made, and the news that the Frenchman will be standing looks to have been met with great joy. Platini has been told by four continental federations (CONMEBOL, CONCACAF, AFC and of course UEFA) that he has their support. Combined, all of those federations total up to 144 votes which would be more than enough for Platini to replace Sepp Blatter.

Each country gets one votes and while there is never going to be the full amount of votes (because of opposing votes and abstentions), Platini looks set to take a huge share of any votes when the polling begins on February 26th, 2016.

Platini is now in at even money with Bet365 to be elected the next FIFA President  and the election will held next year when the extraordinary Congress of Executives is held to decide who will replace Sepp Blatter, who is finally stepping down in the fall out of the corruption crisis the organisation has suffered under his rule.

Platini is expected to make his formal announcement this week while candidates have until October 26th this year to throw their hat into the ring. The only other contender at this point is Prince Ali Al-Hussein who lost the recent election to Blatter and even if he enters it will be hard to pull the amount of support away from Platini.
