Poland News and Form

Poland, who failed to produce a good performance at the 2018 World Cup will have been happy enough with their 1-1 draw out in Italy in their opening Nations League match. That was a solid enough return from them. They followed it up with a 1-1 home draw against Ireland in the last international break. That leaves them with a W3 D3 record in their last six games not counting their poor showing at the World Cup where they lost two of their three games.

Poland have some good players, but they haven’t looked great this year. But they have Robert Lewandowski in there and the prolific Bayern Munich striker is at 21/20 odds in the anytime goalscorer market he is worth a punt* (Betting Odds were taken from October 8th, 2018 at 3:54 p.m.). Poland are unbeaten in their last three home games against Portugal with a W1 D2 record so they have that going for them as well.

Poland will play host to Italy on Sunday so they have to be driven to make the most of home advantage this week. Poland have scored in seven of their last eight games. They should give a good account of themselves.

Portugal News and Form

Portugal will once again go without Cristiano Ronaldo who skips international duty. The reigning European champions picked up a 1-0 home win over Italy in their opening match of the Nations League. Portugal’s goal was delivered by Andre Silva who is their shortest priced option in the anytime goalscorer market at 15/8* (Betting Odds were taken from October 8th, 2018 at 3:54 p.m.). Ahead of that win over Italy Portugal had held out for a 1-1 draw in a friendly against Croatia. They are a side who always make themselves difficult to beat, but the wins have dried up for them.

Portugal are just W3 D5 L2 in their ten games, so have struggled to put those wins on the board. Each of the three wins in that sequence were with a clean sheet in tow. However, we can’t back them for one in this one as they have just one clean sheet now in their last six games played. Still, we can see the game ending under 2.5 goals which is a solid 8/13 option for Poland v Portugal betting tips* (Betting Odds were taken from October 8th, 2018 at 3:54 p.m.). Given the advantage they hold in the group, they would probably be happy with a draw away from home.

Poland v Portugal Predictions

Poland to win: Portugal are missing Cristiano Ronaldo and they had a bit of a grind to beat Italy on home soil. These two look pretty evenly matched and so we are just going to lean on home advantage being the difference. Home win.
