Easy win for Santos' side

Portugal v Luxembourg Betting Tips – UEFA Euro 2020 Qualifier, 11th October 19.45pm

Portugal and Luxembourg lock horns in a UEFA Euro 2020 qualifier on Friday night. The visitors are the overwhelming underdogs in this one, with the bookies pricing them at 40/1 to cause an almighty upset in Lisbon. As for Fernando Santos’ men, they are available at just 1/20. Portugal have work to do in Group B, as the 2016 UEFA European Championship winners are five points behind leaders Ukraine. The hosts should cruise to three points at the Estadio Jose Alvalade in Lisbon on Friday, though.

Portugal News and Form – Easy victory for the European champions

Fernando Santos’ Portugal have not had the best of qualifying campaigns so far. After four games played, the Portuguese have won two and drawn two to sit on eight points. Although the Ukrainians have played a game more, Portugal are five points adrift of the Group B leaders.

Portugal started their qualifying campaign with a disappointing 0-0 home draw with Ukraine. They then drew 1-1 with Serbia in Lisbon. Since then, however, the Navigators have beat Serbia 4-2 in Belgrade before thumping Lithuania 5-1 at the LFF Stadium in Vilnius last time out.

No less than three points will do for Portugal on Friday night. Despite drawing their opening two home games in Group B, the European champions should have no issues whatsoever in this one.

Key-Facts – Portugal v Luxembourg

  • Portugal have taken eight points from a possible 12
  • Luxembourg have picked up just one point from their last four qualifiers
  • The Portuguese are currently ranked fifth in the world

Luxembourg News and Form – Another defeat for Holtz’s troops

Luc Holtz’s Luxembourg were always going to struggle in a group with the likes of Portugal, Serbia and Ukraine, but four points from five matches is a decent return for the Red Lions.

Luxembourg got off to the perfect start when they beat Lithuania 2-1 in Luxembourg City in their opening group game. Holtz’s side came from behind to secure the win on home turf. However, they have taken just one point from a possible 12 since then, drawing with the Lithuanians in Vilnius, and losing to Ukraine (twice) and Serbia.

In their last qualifier a month back, Serbia were just too strong for them at the Stade Josy Barthel, with Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic helping himself to a brace in the 3-1 away victory.

Luxembourg will no doubt enjoy the occasion in Lisbon, but it could be a long night for the nation ranked 93rd in the world.

Portugal v Luxembourg Predictions

Portugal win: With the Portuguese five points behind Ukraine in Group B, Santos’ boys will be looking for a routine home victory on Friday night. In qualifying so far, Portugal have scored ten and conceded four, keeping just one clean sheet along the way. I fancy the Portuguese to win to nil in Lisbon on Friday, which you can get at 3/10.

Clean sheets have been at a premium so far, but Portugal have had no problems scoring in this qualifying campaign. Since drawing a blank against Ukraine in round one, the UEFA Euro 2016 winners have netted ten goals in their last three Group B matches. Portugal are available at evens to score 4+ goals in this one.
