Prince Ali bin al-Hussein from Jordan has confirmed that he will be competing in the FIFA Presidential Election to replace Sepp Blatter as the head of the world football’s governing body. The 39 year was in May’s voting where he took Blatter to a second round of votes before standing down in the contest.

Prince Ali joins UEFA President Michel Platini as oneof the confirmed candidates in the race to get the top job in world football. Prince Ali has been vocal in his criticism of both the way that FIFA was being ran and the philosophies of his opponent Michel Platini. The elections are due to be held on February 26th next year.

“This election should be about football, not personal ambition. We have come too far to walk away now,” Ali said.

“We must overcome deep-seated corruption but I was not brought up to walk away from a tough fight. This is about right and wrong.”

Platini remains strong 8/11 favourite to get the top job and he already has the support of one of the key votes from Asia which is likely to tip things in favour of the Frenchman. Former Fifa executive Chung Mong-joon of South Korea has also indicated that he will run in next year’s election, as has Liberian FA president Musa Bility. They are are 14/1 and 33/1 respectively.

Referring to May’s election, Ali who is 5/2 in Next FIFA President betting added: “I was the only person who dared to challenge Blatter, I ran because I believe that Fifa needs change.

“I had the courage when others feared. They didn’t have the guts to run, but I did.”
