Al Aasy looks tough to beat in the Princess Of Wales's Stakes

Horse Racing Betting

One of the two Group 2 races from Newmarket on Thursday features the Princess of Wales’s Stakes odds.

There is only a small field for this renewal, five runners having been declared.

Of those lining up, it is AL AASY who is heading to the start as the current odds-on favorite for the victory.

He claimed a win on this card twelve months ago. He clealry looks the one to beat over this 1m 4f trip.

We look at all the runners in this Princess Of Wales’s Stakes Odds review.

Al Aasy 4/7 odds-on FAV in Newmarket Princess Of Wales’s Stakes Odds

There is strong favouritism for AL AASY at 4/7 for this big fixture at Newmarket on Thursday* (odds recorded at 21:17 GMT on July 7th, 2021 at Ladbrokes).

Twelve months ago he was in winning form at Newmarket. Al Aasy picked up the Bahrain Trophy on this very card.

So he clearly thrives on this ground.

There has been big improvement for Al Aasy this season, after opening the season winning back to back Group 3 efforts.

Both of those wins happened over this same trip.

On his latest run Al Aasy went close in the Coronation Cup at Epson a month ago for trainer Willie Haggas.

He has to be right there in the frame. Al Aasy does look to be the clear one to beat in this one.

Can Sir Ron Priestley rediscover some form?

SIR RON PRIESTLEY had a good return to action. That’s because he banked back to back victories.

One of those was over Pyledriver, who went on to beat Al Aasy in the Coronation Cup.

So that’s interesting form for sure.

But he is a distant 5/1 option for this* (odds recorded at 21:17 GMT on July 7th, 2021 at Ladbrokes).

But there has been some form dipping from him recently. Mark Johnston’s five-year-old has not been his best at York and Ascot on his last two.

The problem is that he has been too keen. Another problem for him here is that he concedes 3lb to the favourite Al Aasy.

So that’s a lot to stack up even though he is more than capable. The timing doesn’t look right at the moment.

Can Bangkok flourish on the turf?

BANGKOK picked up a victory on his penultimate run which was at Lingfield. That’s two wins this season for Bangkok at that venue.

One of those was a listed fixture as well. But he was last seen at Chester two months ago and he wasn’t anywhere near top form.

Bangkok is a long 12/1 each-way option for this contest* (odds recorded at 21:17 GMT on July 7th, 2021 at Ladbrokes).

He is capable.

But he has been running much better on the all-weather than on the turf. So Bangkok may find this going a little too tough for him.

Can Highest Ground get in the picture?

There was a disappointing result for Sir Michael Stoute’s HIGHEST GROUND on his last run, which was in the Hardwicke.

He never really found himself in a good position in that race and he is a much better prospect than that.

The son of Frankel did pick up a win on his penultimate run, landing the win at Leicester with the tongue-tie on for the first time.

This looks like his kind of scene though and Highest Ground is a decent 5/1 prospect to get close* (odds recorded at 21:17 GMT on July 7th, 2021 at Ladbrokes).

Star Safari could have a lot to find

This is the first time that STAR SAFARI has had a run in the UK since October 2018. There was a little form from him out in the Middle East earlier this season.

He picked up a couple of wins in handicaps on this trip. Notably one of those was a Group 3 effort.

He brings a strong record of four wins from eight to the table. but this could be a big ask of Charlie Appleby’s five year old.

Star Safari is the current 20/1 outsider for the contest* (odds recorded at 21:17 GMT on July 7th, 2021 at Ladbrokes).

Predictions & Tips for Newmarket Princess Of Wales’s Stakes Racing Odds

It is hard to see how AL AASY gets toppled in this contest as the 4/7 odds-on favourite* (odds recorded at 21:17 GMT on July 7th, 2021 at Ladbrokes).

He could so easily have had a hattrick under his belt this season. Even in defeat there was a lot to enjoy about his second place finish at the Coronation Cup.

Had SIR RON PIRESTLEY had gotten his head down properly in his last two contests, our interest in his would have been piqued more. That hasn’t happened.

So we think that the biggest threat to the favourite is going to prove to be HIGHEST GROUND from 5/1* (odds recorded at 21:17 GMT on July 7th, 2021 at Ladbrokes).

His disappointing result at the Hardwicke can be overlooked. If you look at his form before that, it was encouraging.
