PSG News and Form

It was an impressive performance by PSG at Old Trafford in the first leg of this tie. They didn’t have either Neymar or Edinson Cavani playing because of injury, but they still looked very good, with Kylian Mbappe grabbing all the headlines. The United defence had no answer to his pace and his power. So it is PSG who have one foot in the door of a quarter-final berth for the first time in three years.

This is their seventh straight appearance in the round of sixteen of the competition, but in the last two seasons, this is the stage at which they have been dumped out. Their overall round of sixteen record is W4 L2. PSG have won half of their six previous ties against English opposition, the most recent of which was against Man City in 2015/16 quarter-finals.

PSG have scored in each of their last 23 Champions League matches. They have already beaten English opposition at home this season, toppling Liverpool in the group stage. That was their first win in six that they had taken against an English side. Overall PSG are W4 D4 L1 at home against English opposition in their history.

They are on a run of six games on home soil without defeat against English teams (W3 D3) but they didn’t take a clean sheet in any of those six matches. They have a remarkable home record in Europe having only lost two of their last 50 European home fixtures. In this season’s group stage, they took seven of nine points. PSG have won all 15 UEFA competition ties when they have recorded a first-leg away victory.

Manchester United News and Form

Is this too big of an ask for Manchester United? This the 11th appearance at this stage of the Champions League now and the Red Devils are W6 L4 from their previous ten. Manchester United lost at this stage in their last appearance, which was against Sevilla.

Their draw out in Spain in that tie makes it four straight away games in the knockout stages of the Champions League without a win by the Red Devils (D3 L1). Manchester United hold a W2 D5 L3 record from their previous away games at this stage of the tournament. They scored in five of those ten games.

Manchester United posted a good W2 L1 away record in the group stage, one of the wins coming at Juventus as well. They lost at Valencia on matchday six, so coupled with their home loss against PSG that is back to back Champions League defeats. The Red Devils though have only lost six of their last 27 European fixtures (winning sixteen) home and away.

That loss on matchday six against Valencia is United’s only loss in their last twelve away games in Europe and during that run, they conceded only seven goals. The Red Devils had an eight-match undefeated streak of form (W6 D2) against French sides snapped in the first leg of this tie. United have never come back from a first-leg home defeat to win the tie in UEFA competition.

PSG v Manchester United Predictions

PSG to win: PSG just have to ease themselves through this and the longer they keep United off the scoresheet the more the visitors are going to fade. This may end up being a low scoring game and PSG to take the win to nil looks a solid proposition.
