PSG v Real Madrid Betting Preview – UEFA Champions League 6th March 7.45pm

There has to be a lot more drama to come in this tie. PSG are 3-1 down from the first leg, but they do have an away goal and they created plenty of chances in that first encounter to actually have gotten themselves in front. They pose a huge attacking threat and with Madrid’s defence struggling badly for clean sheets this season, they are going to be under some pressure. BUt perhaps the biggest question of all, is will PSG be able to mount a comeback without Neymar?

PSG News and Form

The loss of Neymar is likely going to take something from this spectacle. The Brazilian’s recent injury is a big loss for PSG as they try to go and overturn a 3-1 deficit from the first leg. They went into this tie as the favourites to progress but have a tough task ahead of them to do so now. But they did manage to get an away goal at least so they would only need to win 2-0 back at home on Tuesday to move through. In the William Hill correct score market the shortest priced option is a PSG 2-1 victory at 17/2 while that precious 2-0 scoreline is out at 16/1* (betting odds taken on March 4th, 2018 at 6:58 p.m.). PSG won all three of their group stage matches, firing off fifteen goals in the process.

They have some mighty home form having lost only one of their last 46 European home games as well. Their home form against sides from Spain is W7 D5 L2 so that is solid too, however, home and away they have now won just one of their last eight games against Spanish sides. Remarkably PSG have won through on five of the previous seven occasions that they lost the first leg away of a UEFA tie and the only previous time they lost 3-1 away in the first leg of a tie, was actually against Real Madrid also back in the 12992/93 UEFA Cup and PSG won 4-1 back on home soil. Edinson Cavani is the 3/1 first goalscorer favourite at William Hill* (betting odds taken on March 4th, 2018 at 6:58 p.m.).

Real Madrid News and Form

Will Real Madrid be able to hold on to their lead? They are in better form lately having won five of their last six played across all competitions, but they recently lost a La Liga game out at Espanyol which just reiterated how vulnerable they have been at the back this season. Clean sheets have been hard to come by for them but they can approach this with a bit of caution at least with a two-goal cushion. Both teams to score is a strong odds-on option at William Hill as you would expect. PSG created plenty of chances at the Bernabeu in the first leg, but Neymar played a big part of that. Still, they couldn’t survive a late surge front the Spaniards, with a brace coming from Cristiano Ronaldo. Real Madrid have lost two of their last four away games in Europe though, but have just two defeats in their last 26 European games home and away. Real Madrid are now unbeaten in their last ten games against French sides (W7 D3) and the goal they conceded at the Bernabeu in the first leg, snapped a six-game sequence of clean sheets that they were on against French sides. Overall their away record at French clubs reads W5 D3 L6. Real Madrid have lost both of their two previous two-legged knockout ties against French sides.

PSG v Real Madrid Head to Head

This will be the eighth meeting between the two clubs and now, after their win a couple of weeks ago, Real Madrid are 3-2 up from those previous meetings. From the three previous clashes between them in Paris though, PSG are W1 D2 from the meetings. There was a 0-0 draw between them the last time they met in the group stage in 2015 and that followed a draw in a 1994 meeting. PSG won their first ever home meeting against Real Madrid back in 1993.

PSG v Real Madrid Predictions

PSG are good enough to turn around and produce the home win in this one. They are dangerous and quick enough going forward to haul themselves back into the tie but will have lost an important spark in Neymar. They were arguably the better of the two a fortnight ago with him in the side, can they come up with a solution to replace him? Either way look for a home win, it’s just debatable whether it will be by a big enough margin to progress.
