Punter lands £10k from a 20-year-old bet on Trump’s Snooker success

Long-standing bet comes good on title-winner Trump

Judd Trump landed his first ever World Championship title on Monday as he took down former champion John Higgins. The final itself was regarded as being one of the best for many years with the standard of play being so high. Trump raced away to an 18-9 success in the match.

Just over twenty years ago a punter placed a £10 bet with bookmaker Coral that one day Trump would be crowned world champion. That was when Trump was just eight years old and playing in a club near Bristol.

But racing journalist Neil Morrice spotted something about the talent than the youngster had and placed the wager at 1,000/1 odds that Trump would be a world champion before 2020 (when Trump turns 30).

So that was some deep prediction for Morrice whose prediction nearly came good back in 2011. That was when Trump made it to the final of the World Championships for the first time in his career. Strangely enough, it was John Higgins who he faced on that occasion and the young Trump pushed the Scottish legend all the way, falling 15-18 in the end to Higgins.

After his spectacular 20118/19 season in which he has now claimed the Masters and the World Championship, Trump is as short as 3/1 with some bookmakers* (Betting Odds were taken from Coral on May 8th, 2019 at 2:40 p.m.) to win the 2020 World Championships, a far cry from 1000/1 odds.
